What: Egypt Air Express Embraer ERJ-170 en route from Cairo to Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt

Why: While en route, the plane acknowledged an unspecified technical malfunction, and returned to the Cairo airport for a safe landing.
What a week for Embraers.
China Airlines flight CI-25 had to make an emergency landing in Guam, on April 17th.
The Boeing 737-800 took off for Taipei, Taiwan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported loss of cabin pressure.
The plane landed safely. All 109 passengers and 13 crew members remained unharmed.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
Ryanair flight FR-8886 had to make an emergency landing at Orio al Serio International Airport, Italy, on June 23rd.
The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Brindisi, Italy, was descending toward Orio al Serio Airport when the crew reported smoke in the cabin and declared an emergency.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
SpiceJet flight SG-106 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on February 8th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Delhi, India, but burst a right-hand main tire during departure.
The crew subsequently decided to return to Chennai.
The other right-hand tire burst as the plane touched down. Everyone aboard remained uninjured.
Horizon Air flight 2133 had to make an emergency landing at Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco, Washington, at around 4:05 p.m. on November 13.
According to Horizon Air spokesperson Halley Knigge, the pilots declared emergency due to a pressurization issue in cabin. The flight was heading from Boise to Seattle at the time.
The plane landed uneventfully and none of the 76 passengers and 4 crew members was injured.
An alternate aircraft was arranged which took the passengers to Seattle.
Delta Airlines flight DL-1831 had to return and make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport, Portland, Oregon, on October 30.
The Boeing 757-200, flying to Salt Lake City in Utah, had to return due to an engine problem. The right side engine of the plane had to be shut down as it was over speeding the aircraft.
The Plane landed safely.
All 169 passengers and 6 crew members aboard remained unhurt.

What: Lufthansa Airbus A319-100 en route from Frankfurt to Erbil
Where: Nuremberg
When: May 15th 2012
Why: After taking off from Frankfort, the plane was struck by lightning.
There was a storm front around Nuremberg. The plane remained on the ground; and a replacement jet took passengers to Erbil.
