    What: TWA Boeing 747-131 en route from NY to Paris
    Where: East Moriches, New York
    When: July 17, 1996
    Who: 2 pilots, 2 flight engineers, 14 flight attendants, and 212 passengers
    Why: On July 17, 1996, Trans World Airlines, Inc. Boeing 747-131, N93119, crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near East Moriches, New York, en route from New York to Paris, France. The flight departed JFK about 2019, with 2 pilots, 2 flight engineers, 14 flight attendants, and 212 passengers on board. All were killed, and the airplane was destroyed. Investigation revealed that the crash occurred as the result of a fuel/air explosion in the airplane’s center wing fuel tank .Ignition energy for the CWT explosion most likely entered the CWT through the fuel quantity indication system wiring short circuit. There was no evidence of a missile or bomb.

    United Airlines Flight Diverts to Des Moines International Airport

    United airlinesUnited Airlines flight 112 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Des Moines International Airport in Iowa, on April 26.

    The flight, en-route from Chicago to Denver, had to be diverted after the pilots reported strange odor in the cockpit.

    The Boeing 737 landed uneventfully. None of the 187 people aboard was harmed.

    The cause of odor is under investigation.

    Atlanta-Bound Delta Airlines Flight Diverts After Bird Strike

    Delta Airlines flight DL-552 had to divert and make an emergency landing in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on July 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to Atlanta, Georgia, was diverted due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All 110 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Allegiant Air Flight Diverts to Jacksonville International Airport

    AllegiantAllegiant Air flight 758 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Jacksonville International Airport, Florida, on March 2nd.

    Authorities said the plane, heading from Orlando Sanford International Airport, Florida, to Indianapolis International Airport, Indiana, was diverted due to a pressurization problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 155 passengers and 6 crew members remained safe.

    The airline said in a statement, “A replacement aircraft will be sent to JAX from SFB and is scheduled to depart JAX at 12:40 p.m. and arrive in IND at 2:40 p.m. Passengers will be receiving a refund for the flight segment, food at the gate, the option to change their flight to another one in the Allegiant network and $200 vouchers for future travel on Allegiant.”

    Russian Flight Lands Safely

    What: Vladivostok Avia Airbus A330-300 en route from Vladivostok to Moscow Vnukovo
    Where: Vnukovo
    When: Oct 24th 2009
    Who: 267 passengers and 12 crew
    Why: After the flight had taken off, ground crew discovered tire debris on the runway. ATC notified the on board crew of the pending emergency. The plane performed a flyby at Vnukovo, and made a successful landing with no reported injuries.
