    Thomas Cook Emergency Landing in Frankfurt

    What: Thomas Cook Boeing 757 en route from Glasgow to Heraklion
    Where: Frankfurt
    Who: not available
    Why: The flight was en route over Holland when one of the planes engines developed engine failure. The pilot shut down engine two and diverted to Frankfort, where they made a safe landing. Emergency services were on standby when the plane landed.

    Passengers were provided accommodations and flew out the next day, although there was no Thomas Cook affiliate there, and they were not kept informed of their situation.

    Turkish Airlines Plane Returns to Istanbul due to Engine Failure

    Turkish airlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK-6507 had to return and make an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 24th.

    The plane took off for Kuwait City, Kuwait, but had to return shortly afterwards due to engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    It is believed that the engine failed due to a bird strike.

    Airbus Eats Bird over Glasgow

    What: Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A330-200, en route from Glasgow,SC (UK) to Dalaman (Turkey)
    Where: Manchester
    When: May 3rd 2009
    Who: 322 passengers and 11 crew
    Why: Over Glasgow, the left hand engine apparently ingested a bird; subsequently, the plane suffered failure of the left hand engine while departing (climbing over) Glasgow, then suffered slat failure. The crew was able to shut down the engine and land in Manchester

    TAAG Angola Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Angola

    A TAAG Angola Airlines flight had to return and make an emergency landing in Luanda, Angola, on January 14th.

    The plane took off for Lubango, Angola, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Fed Ex Emergency Field Landing

    What: FedEx Cessna 209 B en route from Syracuse to Plattsburg
    Where: field off Elmer Hill Road, adjacent to the intersections of Elmerhill and Chmelewski roads, Oneida County, NY
    When: Dec 03, 2009 7:45 a.m.
    Who: pilot
    Why: After his engine exploded in mid-air, the pilot–with 8,000 flight hours in this type plane–aimed to land at Griffiss International Airport. While losing altitude, he pulled the plane (with its smoking engine) up, missing several homes and then dropping to land in an open field beside the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department, not far from the airport.

    A contractor, Wiggins Airways, out of Manchester, New Hampshire operated the plane.

    Scandinavian Airlines Plane Rejects Takeoff From Oslo

    Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-4023 had to reject takeoff from Oslo, Norway, on December 9th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Stavanger, Norway, when the crew rejected takeoff due to an engine failure.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. No injuries were reported.
