    Marine Corps Crash Kills 16. Total Loss


    A Marine Corps C-130 departed from the Mid-South Base in Millington, Tennessee and crashed in Mississippi in Leflore County in Itta Bena just off Highway 82 in a soybean field. Reports say the plane exploded in mid-air. Bodies were found more than a mile from the crash site. The debris field covered a radius of five miles. Witnesses report seeing the plane spiraling down with one engine on fire. The way the debris was scattered on both sides of the highway leads investigators to believe the explosion happened prior to the crash. The plane was loaded with ammunition. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

    LOT Polish Airlines Flight Returns to Warsaw due to Engine Vibrations

    LOT Polish Airlines flight LO-6523 made an emergency landing in Warsaw, Poland, on February 27th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane took off for Mauritius, but had to turn back due to engine vibrations.

    The plane landed safely after burning off excess fuel. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Chicago: United Flight diverts due to smoke

    What: United Airlines A-319 en route from Rochester to Chicago
    Where: Chicago
    When: Mar 5 2010
    Who: 120 passengers and five crew
    Why: Less than an hour after takeoff, smoke was detected in the airbus lavoratory. The flight returned to Buffalo and made a safe landing. The source of the smoke was reported as an auxiliary power unit and also a water pump that started a fire which a flight attendant put out.

    Yet Another Airbus Issue: Hydraulics


    What: US Airways Airbus A319-100 flight 1238 registration N762US en route from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Philadelphia
    Where: Raleigh-Durham International Airport
    When: Thursday Jan 22
    Why: The Airbus experienced a hydraulic problem just 6 minutes into the flight. The plane safely touched down back at Raleigh-Durham about fifteen minutes after it took off.

    Small Plane Crash in Alaska Leaves Two Dead

    A small plane crashed near Fort Greely, Alaska, on June 25th.

    Pilot Arthur Ward and his wife Ann Ward were flying from their Salcha home to their homestead near McCarthy when their plane went down.

    Both of them were killed in the crash.

    The NTSB is investigating the cause of crash.

    Asiana Airlines Plane Diverts to Germany due to Open Gear Door

    Asiana Airlines flight OZ-588 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Frankfurt Airport, Germany, on May 27th.

    The Boeing 747-400 flying from Brussels, Belgium, to Seoul, South Korea, had to divert because one of its main gear doors was open.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.
