    Nordica Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tallinn, Estonia

    Nordica flight LO-8119 made an emergency landing in Tallinn, Estonia, on April 5th.

    The plane took off for Stockholm, Sweden, but had to return shortly afterwards due to reports of smoke in the lavatories.

    Where: Trudeau Airport, Montreal Canada
    When: October 24, 2011, 9:00 am
    Why: While en route from Halifax, the pilots received an indication that the flaps were not performing.

    The flight diverted to Trudeau airport where the plane made a safe if high-speed landing with emergency vehicles on standby.

    Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Montana

    A small cargo plane owned by Alpine Air made an emergency landing at Billings Logan International Airport, Montana, on January 19th.

    The plane took off for Sidney, Montana, but had to turn back after the pilot failed to fully retract the landing gear.

    The plane’s landing collapsed upon landing. The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained unharmed.

    Corsair Flight Returns to Paris Orly Airport due to Engine Issue

    Corsair flight SS-984 had to return and make an emergency landing at Paris Orly Airport, France, on July 23rd.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane took off for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Who: 178 passengers
    Why: When the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit, the plane was granted permission to land at Bangor International, which it did, safely.

    I worry about all emergency landings, I’ve experienced just one.

    When I see a United doing an emergency landing for any reason, my skin creeps because I fly United all the time. No pun intended.

    ANA Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    ANAAll Nippon Airways flight NH-763 had to return and make an emergency landing at Osaka International Airport, Japan, on November 20th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane took off for Okinawa, Japan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew received an indication of decreasing engine oil quantity.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. There were 314 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
