    What: Air Greenland de Havilland Dash 8-200 en route from Nuuk to Paamiut
    Where: Nuuk
    When: Oct 25th 2010
    Who: 11 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: While en route, a fire was reported in the lavatory. Smoke was detected in the cabin. The crew returned to Nuuk where they made a safe landing.

    Maintenance found an oil leak in the bleed air system.

    Pilot Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Iowa

    A small plane crashed in the median of Interstate 29, north of downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, on December 10.

    The Piper Malibu Meridian single-engine plane had just taken off from Eppley Airfield when it started experiencing some issues. Authorities said the pilot radioed to the airport and sought permission to return for an emergency landing, however, the plane clipped a power line and went down.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. He was identified as John Rogers, 65, of Omaha.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Thomas Cook Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Portugal after Shoe Hits a Passenger

    Thomas CookA medical emergency prompted Thomas Cook flight TCX 4125 to make an unscheduled landing in Lisbon, Portugal on January 10.

    The flight was en-route from Fuerteventura to Birmingham when a 79-year-old female passenger Hilda Holland became ill after getting hit by a falling shoe. According to Hilda’s husband John,“The woman sitting behind Hilda decided to get a cardigan from the locker but she pulled a shoe out with it…That came down and hit her on the back of the head and the ear….Ten minutes later I looked over and she was shaking and pale…I thought she wasn’t going to make it, I had never seen her like that.”

    The Airbus A321-211 made a safe emergency landing and the couple was rushed to a hospital.

    They left the hospital next day and were transported to Birmingham through another flight.

    An airline spokesperson said, “Our operations control centre contacted Mr and Mrs Holland at the hospital and offered assistance within a few hours of their arrival… Mr Holland was grateful for the call and advised that he would make arrangements through his insurers and we ensured he had direct contact number for Thomas Cook… Our welfare team have been in touch with the Hollands following their return and we hope Mrs Holland makes a full recovery.”

    Flawed Airbus Reverser Cancels Freight Flight

    What: Emirates Airbus A340-300 en route from Zurich to Dubai
    Where: Zurich
    When: Nov 26th 2010
    Why: On its takeoff run, pilots reported thrust reverser issues. They rejected takeoff and the flight was cancelled for maintenance.

    Delta Airlines Plane makes Safe Landing in Minnesota after Engine Shut-down

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-947 made a safe emergency landing at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, Minnesota, on December 6.

    The Airbus A320-200, flying from Tampa, Florida, was about to land when the crew had to shut its engine down.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    Alaska Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Seattle

    Alaska Airlines flight AS-24 had to return and make an emergency landing in Seattle, Washington, on July 16th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane took off for Boston, Massachusetts, but had to turn back after the crew reported air quality concerns on board.

    The plane landed safely.
