    Small Plane Crashes near Tipton Airport; 2 Injured

    Tipton AirportA Grumman American AA-1 aircraft crashed in woods around half mile west of Tipton Airport near Fort Meade, Maryland, on February 8.

    The incident happened shortly after the plane took off from Tipton Airport, with 2 people aboard.

    Authorities said both occupants of the plane were extricated from the wreckage and shifted to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were identified as Thomas Cline, 82, of Silver Spring and Jeff Barnett, 57, of Glen Burnie.

    The FAA and the NTSB is investigating.

    Small Plane Ran Out of Fuel, Crashed near Port Alsworth

    A small plane crashed some 20 miles northwest of Port Alsworth, Alaska, on May 26.

    The plane was en-route to Port Alsworth when it ran out of fuel and went down. Alaska State Troopers located it Tuesday night through a personal locator beacon.

    There were 3 people aboard, including the pilot Mark McNeill, 61, and his passengers Rocky McElveen, 64 and Talon Heying, 24. All of them remained uninjured.

    Passengers Escaped Unharmed after Their Helicopter Crashed in Bedfordshire

    A helicopter crashed on a farm land near Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire, England, on February 25.

    The helicopter, carrying the pilot and 2 female passengers, was en-route to Sussex when its engine malfunctioned. The pilot then decided to make an emergency landing on farm land however, the aircraft flipped over during landing.

    According to Inspector Tracey Day, “I was very pleased when I got there to find three people with cuts and bruises, but everyone had walked away relatively unscathed.”

    Fighter Jet Crashes During NATO Training Exercise in Spain; 10 Killed

    SmokeA Greek F-16 jet crashed during NATO training in Spain at around 3:20 p.m. on January 26.

    The plane went down shortly after it took off from a training center in Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha, during a NATO exercise.

    According to a statement released by the defense ministry, “The plane lost power, crashing into the parking area for planes, crashing into various planes that were parked there.”

    Ten people, including 2 Greek and 8 French nationals, were killed in the accident while 21 others were injured. Five of the injured were shifted to La Paz Hospital’s specialist burn unit in Madrid.

    NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said, “This is a tragedy that affects the whole NATO family.”

    Blue Cypress Lake Cessna Crash Kills Scottish Visitors

    What: N70FT Inc. Cessna 152 en route from Space Coast Aviation at the Merritt Island Airport
    Where: Blue Cypress Lake, Indian River County, FL
    When: June 9 2011
    Who: 2 fatalities, Carly Beattie and Daniel Beattie
    Why: A Cessna 152 chartered by Scottish visitors Carly Beattie and Daniel Beattie crashed in Indian River County southwest blue Cypress Lake. The plane crashed in mud and swampland in Blue Cypress Conservation area; the crash site is north of State Road 60 and east of Florida’s Turnpike, between Fellsmere and Yeehaw Junction, on land owned by the St. John’s River Water Management District. The rural area is home to venomous snakes and alligators, making recovery more difficult.

    Carly was a student pilot, and not allowed to take passengers.

    The plane apparently nosedived engine deep into the mud, splitting the fuselage behind the cockpit. The plane was lost on Thursday, reported Thursday at 11, and not found till Friday. Cell tower analysis helped to determine the location.

    A crane will probably be used to recover the wreckage. An airboat was used to reach the site, and hikers were wearing waist-high boots. The NTSB is investigating.

    Nigerian Peace Keeper Chopper Crash Kills 12


    What: Nigerian Police Special Task Force Bell 412EP en route to to Abuja
    Where: Jenta Mangoro, Nigeria
    When: March 14, 2012, 11:00 a.m.
    Who: 7 fatalities aboard, 5 ground fatalities
    Why: While on a mission to monitor a crisis situation, the chopper crashed. The crash also killed 5 on the ground in the vicinity of a satellite market and a Government Secondary School along Rukuba Road. Reports say that the wreckage landed inside a residence. A nine year old girl in the house was injured. The owner of the house, Mali Waziri, was at work at the time of the accident.

    Witnesses say that the chopper made strange noises before it lost height and crashed.

    The mission was described as “surveillance duty in hot spot.”

    Haruna John, recently Deputy Inspector General of Police, died in the crash, as well as his orderly and other members of the peace team. ACP Garba Yelwa -Pilot; CSP Alexander Pwol-Ja, Co-Pilot and Sergeant Sonatian Shirunam-Orderly were also fatalities.
