    Transavia Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    Transavia flight HV-6845 had to return and make an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on November 28th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Boa Vista, Cape Verde, but had to turn back due to a lightning strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Air Canada’s Boeing-767 en route from Vancouver to Shanghai
    Where: Yelizovo airport
    When: Sept 5 2010 5:32 Moscow time
    Who: 152 passengers and 10 crew
    Why: While en route, flight attendants smelled a burning odor coming from the lavatory. The crew decided to divert and make an emergency landing at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airport. The plane was investigated by maintenance and no fire was found, and after a four hour delay, the flight resumed.

    Medical Helicopter Crash outside of Chicago

    What: Rockford Memorial Hospital MBB BK 117 A-3 en route from Rockford to Mendota
    Where: Rochelle, Illinois
    When: Dec 10, 2012 8:30 p.m.
    Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
    Why: A Rockford Memorial Hospital’s REACT helicopter crashed in a field at about 8:30 p.m. in Rochelle midway between Rockford and Mendota. Pilot Andy Olson, flight nurse Jim Dillow, R.N. and flight nurse Karen Hollis, R.N. died on the scene.

    The medical helicopter was en route to Mendota to pick up a patient. No patients were aboard at the time of the accident.

    American Airlines Dreamliner Returns to Beijing due to Hailstorm

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-88 had to return and make an emergency landing in Beijing, China, on the morning of July 27.

    The Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, heading towards Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, had to return after it sustained damage by a hailstorm.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 209 passengers and 13 crew members remained safe.

    Final Report on Sikorsky Incident

    When a Bristow S-76 Helicopter with eight passengers and two crew fishtailed as it was flying from from Humberside Airport to a gas platform in the North Sea, the helicopter made a precautionary landing. The crew smelled smoke in the cockpit at the time.

    The investigation concluded that an electrical short had occurred in a wiring loom.

    The incident occurred on Sept 26, 2012.

    Jet Blue Emergency Landing in Kingston Jamaica

    What: JetBlue A320 Airbus en route from Orlando to Bogota Colombia
    Where: Norman Manley International Airport Kingston
    When: Feb 3 2011 8:10 p.m
    Who: 149 passengers
    Why: While en route, the plane’s systems indicated smoke in the cabin. The pilot diverted to Kingston where they made a safe landing. The flight was inspected on landing, and no smoke was found.

    Arrangements were being made to fly the passengers to Colombia.

    However, the Airbus problem was an “erroneous reading.” The plane left Jamaica shortly after midnight.
