Air Canada Jazz Suffers Engine Fire Just After Takeoff
On December 12, 2013, an Air Canada Jazz de Havilland Canada DHC-8-311 took off from Nanaimo Airport en route to Vancouver when the plane developed an engine fire.
Fire broke out over open water when the plane reached cruising altitude minutes after leaving the airport. Passengers reported hearing a loud bang, and on the side of the plane, they saw flames from the affected engine.
The pilot shut down the engine, and they made a safe landing. The crew also discovered an engine oil problem just prior to the fire.
This was the first emergency landing at the Nanaimo Airport, which was shut down for four hours after the incident. Emergency services responded to the scene. Passengers used stairs to exit.
Passengers spoke positively about the crew. No one was injured.

4 Sent to Hospital after Air Canada Jazz Flight Experienced Rough Landing in Edmonton
Air Canada Jazz flight 8481 had to make an emergency landing at Edmonton International Airport in Alberta, Canada, on November 6.The plane was heading from Calgary to Grande Prairie, Alberta, when one of its tires blew off during take-off. Due to strong winds at Calgary International Airport, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing at Edmonton airport.
Authorities said that the right main landing gear of the aircraft collapsed as it touched down in Edmonton at around 8:36 p.m.
There were 71 passengers and 4 crew members aboard at the time. Jazz Aviation LP confirmed that 4 passengers were taken to hospital and that 3 of them were later released after treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.

WestJet Encore Flight Makes Emergency Landing in British Columbia
WestJet Encore flight 3105 made an emergency landing in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, on November 22nd.The plane heading from Vancouver to Terrace, Canada, was diverted after the crew reported an issue with the front landing gear.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 40 passengers and 4 crew members remained safe.
British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing at London Heathrow Airport
British Airways flight BA343 had to make an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport in United Kingdom on May 18.The flight was heading from Nice to Heathrow when the crew requested an emergency landing due to a landing gear malfunction.
The firefighters were ready at the scene when the plane landed safely No injuries were reported.
An airline spokesperson said, “Our flight has landed safely after a suspected technical issue… The safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority and the aircraft will be checked by our engineers before returning to service.”

Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Russellville Municipal Airport
A small plane made an emergency landing at Russellville Municipal Airport, Arkansas, on December 20.
Authorities said the pilot requested an emergency landing after the plane’s landing gear failed to deploy.
The plane landed with the wheels up. The pilot, who was the the only one aboard, remained uninjured.
