What: Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747-300 en route from Riyadh to Madinah
Where: Madinah
When: Feb 16th 2011
Who: 265 passengers
Why: On landing at Madinah, the plane veered off runway 17 and had a runway excursion on the left of the runway.
The left hand flaps of the plane were damaged. Passengers disembarked on to the runway. No injuries were reported.

What: Jetblue Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Westchester County, NY to West Palm Beach,FL
Where: West Palm Beach
When: Dec 26th 2009 (just before midnight)
Who: 95 people
Why: Prior to landing, the pilot realized that the plane had lost nosewheel steering. After landing, he came to a full stop on the runway, and the plane was towed to the gate.

What: Thomson Airways Boeing 757-200 from London to Paphos Cyprus

Why: On approach to Paphos, the pilot had to shut down an engine. The captain issued a distress signal and landed with one engine, with emergency vehicles on standby.
They made a safe landing. The plane’s return run is postponed until after Inspectors flying in from the UK to inspect the plane.

What: TransAsia Airways Aerospatiale ATR-72-500 en route from Kaohsiung to Taiwan

Why: After a normal flight and a safe landing, on the runway, the left nose wheel rolled off by itself.
Imagine being a passenger on that plane, watching your wheel roll off. Actually, that happened to me in a car, once.
Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance
Swift Air flight WQ-933 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport, Florida, on July 7th.
The Boeing 737-300 flying from Montego Bay, Jamaica, to Cleveland, Ohio, had to divert due to smoke indication in its cargo hold.
The plane landed safely.
All 155 people aboard remained safe.

What: BMI/Astraeus Boeing 757-200 en route from Freetown Sierra Leone to London
Where: Nouakchott Mauritania

Why: While en route the plane developed engine problems. One account says the pilot saw an engine on fire and contacted ATC for immediate clearance for an emergency landing.
The official report says that the plane was experiencing engine surges.
What matters is that the plane landed safely, with no casualties. A replacement plane was flown in.
American Airlines flight AA65 had to make an emergency landing at London’s Heathrow Airport, on February 23.
Emergency was declared aboard the Boeing 767-300 aircraft after its windscreen cracked. The plane was heading from Zurich, Switzerland, to New York at the time.
The plane landed uneventfully and no one was hurt.
It is not clear how the windscreen cracked.
