    Small Plane Crashes in Florida due to Mechanical Issue

    A small plane crashed into a marshy area near Orlando Apopka Airport, Orange County, Florida, on the night of December 30th.

    The Cessna 400 had to abort its landing after spotting a deer on the runway. The plane faced mechanical issue after turning around.

    The plane sustained significant damage.

    The 61-year old pilot was taken to a nearby hospital for first aid.

    Cape Elizabeth Crash near Lighthouse under investigation


    On a sunny day, the small plane just 100 yards from shore crashed near a historic lighthouse in a park in full sight of park visitors. The plane which remains in ocean waters at the ocean bottom in 60 feet of water, off Fort William but is not expected to cause environmental damage. The pilot was identified as Dr. Louis Hanson of Durham, who escaped the plane but was reported “unresponsive.”

    Turkish Airlines Jet Skids Off Runway at Kathmandu Airport

    Turkish airlinesA Turkish Airlines passenger jet, operating flight # TK726, skidded off the runway at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 4.

    The accident happened in dense foggy conditions, when the Airbus A330, carrying 224 people, was coming from Istanbul, Turkey.

    The plane ended up on its nose and the passengers had to use emergency slides to exit.

    None of the passengers and crew members sustained serious injuries.

    Helicopter Crash in Kenya Leaves 4 Injured

    A 12-seater helicopter crashed at the National Youth Service (NYS) engineering institute near Mathare, Nairobi, Kenya, on September 8th.

    The helicopter carrying 4 people was on routine patrol when it developed a mechanical problem.

    All 4 people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

    The injured were taken to hospital.

    Commission of Inquiry to Begin

    Update: The Kenyan Commission of Inquiry established to look into the June 10 helicopter crash in the Kibiku Forest in Kenya is set to hold its first formal session on July 16. The container holding the wreckage will be stored at the Kenya Police Air-Wing facility at the Wilson Airport.

    The Kenya Police Airwing Unit Commandant Rodgers Mbithi will be appearing as the first witness.

    The pilots involved, Captain Nancy Gituanja and Luke Oyugi, underwent pilot training in the Ukraine in April 2009.

    According to commission members, the intent of the commission is “…not to apportion blame, but to prevent occurrence.”

    Fatalities included Minister of State for Provincial Administration and Internal Security George Saitoti and his permanent secretary Orwa Ojode, pilots Luke Oyugi and Nancy Gituanja and bodyguards Inspector Joshua Tonkei and Sergeant Thomas Murimi.
