    Who: 318 passengers, 16 crew
    Why: After a louder than normal take-off, fifteen minutes into the flight, pilots of the Air Canada Boeing en route from Toronto to Japan shut off an engine. Witnesses reported smoke and fire coming from the right engine.

    The flight had to return to Toronto following engine problems. Falling bits of engine debris “hot bits of blackened metal” fell from the sky and caused some damage to parked vehicles near Derry and Kennedy Rds in Mississauga. The entire circuit of the flight took about an hour and a half.

    There were no injuries on the flight, but emergency services were on standby on landing, in expectation of trauma.

    UPS Cargo Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Little Rock

    UPSA United Parcel Service (UPS) plane had to make an emergency landing at Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas, at around 4:40 a.m. on February 3.

    Emergency was declared aboard the UPS MD80 cargo plane after the pilot reported strong fumes in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully. None of the 2 people aboard was harmed.

    The flight’s departure or destination is not clear at the moment.

    JetBlue Embraer Diverts to Florida due to System Malfunction

    JetBlueJetBlue flight B6-2020 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Jacksonville International Airport, Florida, on June 9th.

    The Embraer ERJ-190, en-route from For Lauderdale, Florida, to Worcester, UK, had to divert due to a system malfunction.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Norwegian Airlines Flight Diverts to Baku Due to Medical Emergency

    Norwegian AirA Norwegian Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Azerbaijan, on April 19.

    The plane was heading from Bangkok to Copenhagen when the pilot requested an emergency landing due to an ill passenger.

    The plane, carrying 288 passengers, was then diverted to Baku where it made a safe emergency landing.

    The passenger, identified as Alan Lasten, of Denmark, was diagnosed with heart failure. He was immediately shifted to Sabunchu hospital, however, his life could not be saved.

    IndiGo Flight Returns to Chennai due to Engine Issue

    IndiGo flight 6E-923 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on January 3rd.

    The plane took off for Kolkata, India, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed back safely. All one hundred and thirty-six people aboard remained unharmed.

    Engine Issues Forced Emergency Landing at Philadelphia International Airport

    US AirwaysA US Airways Express jet, operated by Republic Airlines, had to return and make an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport, Pennsylvania, on the morning of December 29.

    The Embraer 175 aircraft took off from Philadelphia for Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, New Hampshire, but had to turn back just minutes later, due to an engine problem. Some passengers reported that they heard a loud boom and saw fiery flashes shooting out of the plane.

    The plane landed safely and all 75 passengers and 4 crew members remained unharmed.

    The airline accommodated the passengers in another flight while the plane was taken for examination.
