    Thomas Cook Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Portugal after Shoe Hits a Passenger

    Thomas CookA medical emergency prompted Thomas Cook flight TCX 4125 to make an unscheduled landing in Lisbon, Portugal on January 10.

    The flight was en-route from Fuerteventura to Birmingham when a 79-year-old female passenger Hilda Holland became ill after getting hit by a falling shoe. According to Hilda’s husband John,“The woman sitting behind Hilda decided to get a cardigan from the locker but she pulled a shoe out with it…That came down and hit her on the back of the head and the ear….Ten minutes later I looked over and she was shaking and pale…I thought she wasn’t going to make it, I had never seen her like that.”

    The Airbus A321-211 made a safe emergency landing and the couple was rushed to a hospital.

    They left the hospital next day and were transported to Birmingham through another flight.

    An airline spokesperson said, “Our operations control centre contacted Mr and Mrs Holland at the hospital and offered assistance within a few hours of their arrival… Mr Holland was grateful for the call and advised that he would make arrangements through his insurers and we ensured he had direct contact number for Thomas Cook… Our welfare team have been in touch with the Hollands following their return and we hope Mrs Holland makes a full recovery.”

    Ellinair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    EllinairEllinair flight EL-920 made an emergency landing in Novosibirsk, Russia, on August 9th.

    The plane was flying from Thessaloniki, Greece, when the captain became unwell and later on fell unconscious. The first officer took control and landed safely.

    The captain was shifted to hospital where the doctors diagnosed a brain haemorrhage.

    Endeavor Air Flight Returns to Baltimore due to Engine Failure

    Endeavor Air flight DL-4149 had to return and make an emergency landing in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 23rd.

    The Canadair CRJ-200 plane took off for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Kentucky, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All 51 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Delta Amsterdam-Atlanta Makes Emergency Landing in Canada

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from Amsterdam to Atlanta, Georgia
    Where: Gander Canada
    When: Dec 22nd 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: While en route, the flight developed a pressure problem, and diverted to Gander, NL with unstable cabin pressure. The flight made a successful landing, after passengers debarked normally, were eventually provided alternative transportation.

    Southwest Airlines Jet Diverts to Tallahassee

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight 206 had to make an emergency landing in Tallahassee, Florida, on November 20.

    The plane was en-route from Atlanta to Tampa when it was diverted due to an electrical smell in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 143 passengers and 5 crew members remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Super Stallion Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing on Solana Beach

    A Marine Corps helicopter made an emergency landing on Solana Beach, California, on April 15.

    According to a statement released by Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the 100-foot CH-53E Super Stallion was forced to land in emergency after a low oil-pressure indicator light flashed. “The aircraft was conducting routine training, and the pilots landed the aircraft safely,” it said.

    The aircraft remained undamaged.

    The Super Stallion has three engines and is the heaviest and largest helicopter the U.S. military has.
