Why: On takeoff, the Delta jet blew a tire. The pilots returned to Atlanta and made a safe landing after circling in a holding pattern for an hour to burn off fuel. Passengers disembarked safely and were booked on alternative flights.

Why: Climbing out of Buenos Aires, the pilot approached severe weather ahead and diverted around it, shortly resuming the flight plan. This plane and others flew through severe turbulence.On making a safe landing, the plane was grounded in Paris for routine inspection procedures that are common after flying through turbulence.
Malindo Air Flight Returns to Dhaka with Cracked Windshield
Malindo Air flight OD-163 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on June 27th.The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but had to turn back after the crew noticed a cracked windshield.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
Air India Waits for 787s
Air India has informed Boeing that it is not making any more pre-delivery payments on 27 Boeings which are currently being built in Boeing’s Seattle plant.
The delivery of the planes has been pushed back to 2011. Air India representatives independent director, Air Chief Fali Major, and the Chief Operating Officer, Captain Gustav Baldau will be visiting the plant to see the progress made on Air India’s 787s.
Air India has around 15 Boeing 777s. Air India determined that “Fuel efficiency of the B 787 aircraft was found to be better than that of the competitor A330-200 by 17 per cent.”
Boeing Looks Into Green Fuel Environmental Strategy
Boeing Commercial Airplanes Environmental Strategy and Integration is researching a “green” fuel broadly called green diesel—which has half of the carbon emissions of regular fuel—in the hope of weaning commercial planes off of fossil fuels. Green diesel, which is already being produced, is a legitimate alternative to Jet-A fuel which is what is used now.
Biodiesel is typically made by chemically reacting lipids with alcohol producing fatty acid esters. Refined diesel can be produced that is chemically identical to diesel fuel. Any blending ratio can be used, and no modifications or checks are required for any diesel engine, but what is being considered is using green fuel in a half-and-half blend with Jet A fuel.
Boeing Responds to the NTSB 787 Battery Update

And This is what Boeing Has to SaySEATTLE, Feb. 7, 2013 / — Boeing (NYSE: BA) welcomes the progress reported by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in the 787 investigation, including that the NTSB has identified the origin of the event as having been within the battery. The findings discussed today demonstrated a narrowing of the focus of the investigation to short circuiting observed in the battery, while providing the public with a better understanding of the nature of the investigation.
The company remains committed to working with the NTSB, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and our customers to maintain the high level of safety the traveling public expects and that the air transport system has delivered. We continue to provide support to the investigative groups as they work to further understand these events and as we work to prevent such incidents in the future. The 787 was certified following a rigorous Boeing test program and an extensive certification program conducted by the FAA. We provided testing and analysis in support of the requirements of the FAA special conditions associated with the use of lithium ion batteries. We are working collaboratively to address questions about our testing and compliance with certification standards, and we will not hesitate to make changes that lead to improved testing processes and products.
