    Who: 136 passengers 5 crew
    Why: While en route, the pilot declared an emergency due to an engine fire, then diverted to make a safe landing in Little Rock Arkansas. Passengers were provided access to alternative flights to Washington.

    Delta Airlines Plane Returns to Oregon due to Over-speeding Engine

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-1831 had to return and make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport, Portland, Oregon, on October 30.

    The Boeing 757-200, flying to Salt Lake City in Utah, had to return due to an engine problem. The right side engine of the plane had to be shut down as it was over speeding the aircraft.

    The Plane landed safely.

    All 169 passengers and 6 crew members aboard remained unhurt.

    Delta Emergency Landing in Kansas City, Engine Shut Down

    What: Delta flight en route from Kansas City to Detroit
    Where: Kansas City
    When: Dec 6, 2011
    Who: 73 aboard
    Why: The Delta flight took off but after about twenty minutes, the flight became rocky and turbulent.

    The pilots had to shut down the right engine after it lost power; then they returned to the airport to make a safe landing.

    Kansas City Fire department was on standby.

    No injuries were reported.

    Korean Air Crashes in Pohang

    What: Korean Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Seoul to Pohang
    Where: Pohang
    When: March 15, 1999
    Who: 6 crew and 150 passengers
    Why: On March 15, a Korean Air Flight 1533 (McDonnell Douglas MD-83 #HL7570) from Seoul to Pohang departed for Pohang. Weather at Pohang was poor with degraded visibility and gusty 25 knot winds. The pilot failed at the first attempt to land. After the second approach the plane touched down, but overran the runway. The aircraft skidded through 10 antennas, a reinforced barbed wire fence and came to rest against an embankment. The landing snapped the fuselage in half. Damage– Complete destruction of air frame, Injuries– multiple. 6 crew and 150 passengers, no deaths.

    Delta Airlines Flight Safely Lands at Shannon Airport after Gear Issue

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-406 made a safe landing at Shannon airport, Ireland, after a landing gear scare on October 11th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, was on approach to Shannon airport when the crew received an unsafe gear indication.

    The crew continued for a low approach during which the ATC confirmed that the gear appeared to be down.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Smokey Delta Flight Overnights in Omaha

    What: Delta en route from New York City to Phoenix
    Where: Eppley Airfield
    When: Feb 28, 2011
    Why: While en route, the plane developed smoke in the cockpit.

    The flight diverted to Omaha and made a safe landing with rescue crews standing by.

    Passengers disembarked and were booked on an 8:15 am Omaha to Phoenix flight.
