    Air Europa Plane Returns to Switzerland due to Bad Smell in Cabin

    Air Europa flight UX-1676 had to return and make an emergency landing at Zürich Airport, Switzerland, on July 2nd.

    The Embraer ERJ-195 flying to Madrid, Spain, had to return due to a bad smell in its cabin.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Delta Bird Strike

    What: ASA Delta flight 50-seat CRJ-100 en route from Atlanta to Mobile, Ala.
    Where: Landing in Atlanta
    When: Fri Mar 13
    Why: After a bird strike, the plane circled in northwest Georgia to burn off fuel; the pilot returned to Atlanta and landed safely. Debarking passengers saw damage incurred by the bird strike

    Congo Plane Excursion

    What: Protocole Aviation Douglas DC-8 freight flight from Pointe-Noire to Brazzaville
    Where: Brazzaville
    When: Sep 12th 2011
    Who: 4 crew
    Why: En route transporting food from Pointe-Noire to Brazzaville in the Congo, the flight landed hard. A tire burst on landing, resulting in the plane going off the runway.

    The landing gear was damaged.

    Airbus Loses Control in Montreal

    What: Air Canada Airbus A320-200 en route from Montreal Trudeau Canada to Fort Lauderdale, FL
    Where: Montreal
    When: Apr 14th 2009
    Why: After reporting problems to air traffic control and returning to Montreal, on final approach to runway 06L the crew experienced “severe mechanical turbulence” and momentarily lost control of the plane. However, the plane landed safely; and shortly afterwards, the passengers were off to their destination–on board another Airbus.

    *Mechanical turbulence is turbulence around buildings, wind eddies not caused by thermal means.

    Flybe Plane Returns to Southampton Airport after Bird Strike

    flybeA Flybe flight had to return and make an emergency landing at Southampton airport, United Kingdom, on January 3.

    The Embraer E175 plane took off for Alicante, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after a bird hit it, causing damage to the propeller.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 83 passengers remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged an alternate plane for the passengers.

    Little Airline’s Big Deal with Boeing, Lion Air 21.7 Billion Expansion


    Indonesian Lion Air is planning to buy 230 planes from Boeing Co. $21.7 billion for the fleet will be paid in loans from U.S. Export-Import Bank over 12 years though bank financing. The airline will be adding flights to cities in China, South Korea and Taiwan. Lion Air, founded in 2000, currently flies Boeing 737s and MD-90s in 226 flights daily to more than 36 cities including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Ho Chi Minh City.

    The 737 MAX is a fuel efficient upgrade competitive with Airbus SAS’s A320neo.
