    Expressjet Plane Returns to Norfolk after Engine Failure

    ExpressJetExpressjet flight EV-5419 had to return and make an emergency landing in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 11th.

    The plane took off for Detroit, Michigan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the right hand engine stopped working.

    The plane landed safely. All 62 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Bird Strike

    THY Turkish AirlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK-2408 had to return and make an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 28th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Antalya, Turkey, but had to turn back after the left engine ingested birds.

    The plane landed back safely. All 176 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing at LAX

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight 1429 en route from Sacramento to Bob Hope Airport, Burbank, made an unscheduled landing at Los Angeles International Airport in the afternoon of October 5.

    The pilot of the Boeing 737 decided to divert after he noticed a warning light indicating a potential issue with the aircraft’s flaps. The airline later released a statement saying that the decision to land at LAX was made “out of an abundance of caution.”

    The flight landed safely and all 123 passengers onboard were transported to Burbank with a delay of few hours from the schedule. The pilot informed that the situation did not require any emergency protocols, therefore, no emergency vehicles were called on the scene at the time of landing.

    A Southwest spokesperson confirmed that aircraft is being examined by the mechanics.

    The FAA Adjusting Separation

    The 787 Dreamliner and the new 747-8 will have adjusted separation distances, according to the FAA which is adjusting the recent separation guidelines.

    The FAA is gathering data on Boeing’s flight-test flights to determine the minimum spacing between the Boeing jets and planes following behind. The original document which has been rescinded— has incorrect data about the weights of the 787 Dreamliner and the new 747-8. The final standard has yet to be announced.

    What: Delta flight 5800 was en route from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Greenville Spartanburg International
    Where: Greenville Spartanburg International airport
    When: May 3, 2009 1:23 Sunday afternoon
    Who: 19 passengers
    Why: Pilot declared an emergency due to a stuck flap on the left wing.

    Air Canada Flight Diverts to Calgary due to Medical Emergency

    An Air Canada flight had to divert and make an emergency landing in Calgary, Canada, on April 4th.

    The plane en-route from Toronto to Vancouver, Canada, was diverted after a female passenger went into medical distress.

    The plane landed safely. The patient was rushed to Peter Lougheed Centre, Calgary.

    The flight resumed shortly afterwards.
