George’s Point of View
Judgements and awards offer no closure.
For those left behind, the accidents are never over.
Angela de Marchi lost her husband in September 29 2006, a Boeing Legacy crash, when 154 died.
She lost him again at the crash of Tam Congonhas Flight 3054 July 17 2007 when 199 people died.
And now this new Airbus crash…she lost him again.
For the families, each new crash brings the memories back, the hope, the loss.

Small Plane Crashed near Norfolk International Airport; 3 Dead
A 1975 Mooney aircraft crashed into the Norfolk Botanical Garden in Norfolk, Virginia, early on March 4.
According to the aircraft’s owner James Beauchamp of Corapeake, North Carolina, the accident happened when his friend Michael Buxton of Portsmouth, Virginia, was returning from Key West, Florida, along with 2 other people.
The plane was scheduled to land at Suffolk Executive Airport, however, on reaching the airport, the pilot diverted it to Norfolk International Airport. According to Norfolk Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Julian Williamson, “At approximately 1.5 miles out, the pilot made a transmission to the tower. This would be the last communication the tower had with the pilot.”
All three people aboard were killed in the accident.
The cause of accident is being investigated.

George’s Point of View
The issue here is not simply a warning light. It is the fact that warning lights on aircraft are crucial, life-saving equipment and cannot afford to fail. A warning that goes off for no reason may cause the “boy who cried wolf” syndrome (i.e. let’s ignore it because that warning always goes off;) or it can indicate some mechanical underpining that is faulty (loose wire, blown gasket); or a miniscule software error that could range in significance from mundane to catastrophic.
So let’s hope that maintenance looks at that door until they determine exactly what did happen to cause the warning to go off. Because the only way to prevent problems in the future is to pin down every issue now, before it escalates into another Airbus disaster.
Spirit Airlines Emergency Landing
The FAA is investigating a Spirit Airlines fight that diverted to Myrtle Beach to make an emergency landing, and stranded some two hundred passengers at the airport. By Sunday morning, passengers had managed to get a flight to their destination, Atlantic City NJ.
Spirit Airlines Flight 348, an Airbus A320, was en route from Tampa to Atlantic City when it had to make the emergency diversion.
The image below is an A320 interior posted on the Spirit Airlines website which they say is “for editorial use. They are not for commercial use. Photo credit must be given to Spirit Airlines.” However, their site has no mention that I can find of the emergency landing or accommodations for the passengers.

In a completely separate incident, Spirit Airlines may be facing a battle in court. A claustrophobic student, Nadia Majed, filed a discrimination complaint with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights after she was kicked off the plane after requesting an available window seat.
