    Shanghai- Bound China Eastern Flight Diverts after Engine Failure

    China Eastern flight MU-5602 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Qingdao Liuting International Airport, Shandong, China, on January 31.

    The Airbus A321-200, flying from Shenyang, to Shanghai, China, had to divert due to engine failure. One of its engines had to be shut down mid-air.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    No injuries were reported.

    Two Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Santa Rosa

    A small plane crashed into a soggy field near Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California, on January 28.

    Authorities said the plane, flying from Palm Springs to Santa Rosa, went down near the end of Wood Ranch Road.

    Both occupants of the plane, including the pilot, Donald MacKenzie, 69, and his passenger, Marsha Gastwirth, 68, were killed in the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    United Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing at McAllen Miller International Airport

    United ExpressUnited Express flight 4020 operated by Mesa Airlines made an emergency landing at McAllen Miller International Airport in Hidalgo County, Texas, on January 28.

    The airline said that the ATC declared a ‘precautionary emergency’ after a brake light indicator came on.

    The Embraer 175 plane landed uneventfully. There were 41 people aboard the plane; all of them remained unhurt.

    The maintenance personnel inspected the plane and cleared it to continue the flight to Houston.

    Jet Airways Passenger Opens Emergency Exit Door ‘Just For Fun’

    Jet AirwaysA passenger aboard Jet Airways flight 9W 585 opened the plane’s emergency exit just after landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India, on January 24.

    According to a Jet Airways spokesperson, “A guest, who travelled from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai by Jet Airways flight 9W 585, opened the emergency exit after the aircraft had parked at the bay at the Mumbai airport. The matter was reported to the security agencies.”

    The passenger, who apparently told the crew members that he opened the emergency exit door “just for fun”, was escorted to a local police station by security forces.

    Local media identified him as Steve Titschler, of Germany.

    American Airlines Plane Returns to Heathrow after Medical Emergency

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA109 had to return and make an emergency landing at London’s Heathrow Airport, on January 27.

    The Boeing 777 took off for Los Angeles, California, but had to return shortly afterwards after two passengers and several crew members fell ill midair.

    The plane, carrying 172 passengers and 16 crew members, landed uneventfully. The patients were evaluated by paramedics.

    The airline said, “Our maintenance team conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft, including a test flight, and found no issues with the Boeing 777-300. Out of an abundance of caution, all of the air filters on the aircraft were replaced.”

    According to an airline spokesperson, “The captain operating charter flight EZE514 from Scatsta to Aberdeen received a cockpit warning indication en-route to Aberdeen relating to one of the aircraft’s two engines…The airport fire service was put on standby but was stood down shortly after the aircraft landed in Aberdeen.”

    All 28 passengers and 3 crew members remained safe.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Southwest Airlines Jet Veers off Taxiway at Nashville International Airport

    According to FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen, “Southwest Airlines 31, a Boeing 737 aircraft, rolled off a taxiway into the grass and got stuck while taxiing to its gate at Nashville International Airport at 5:30 p.m. Central Time.”

    There were 133 passengers aboard at the time; 8 of them suffered minor injuries.

    The plane had come in from William P. Hobby international airport, Houston, Texas. Three Notams were issued following the occurrence.

    On Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 1725 central standard time, Southwest Airlines flight 31, a Boeing 737, N649SW, departed taxiway T4 and came to rest in a ditch at the Nashville International Airport, (BNA), Nashville, Tennessee. The passengers evacuated via the emergency slides. The aircraft was substantially damaged and nine passengers sustained minor injuries. The flight was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from the William P Hobby Airport (HOU), Houston, Texas. Night visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident.
