Southwest Boeing Bowls Over Denver Concourse Light

What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 en route from Los Angeles to Denver
Where: Denver
When: Jan 30, 2012, 9:45 a.m
Who: 89 passengers and 5 crew
Why: After landing from the LA flight, the jet knocked over an airport ramp lightpole around the C concourse.

The plane was taxiing to the Southwest gate on Concourse C. No one was injured in SW Flight 792 and no flights were disrupted.

Passengers disembarked on to the tarmac and were bused to the terminal. The NTSB is investigating.

    AlaskaAlaska Airlines flight AS-807 continued for a safe landing at Honolulu International Airport, Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 19.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chicago

    United Airlines flight UA-1564 made an emergency landing in Chicago, Illinois, on August 24th.

    The Boeing 757-300 plane was flying from Boston, Massachusetts, when the crew reported a hydraulic failure and requested emergency assistance.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Two Dead after Small Plane Crashes in New Mexico

    A small plane crashed near Ohkay Owingeh Airport in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, on March 11th.

    The single-engine Remos GX light sport airplane went down around 50 feet from the outer fence of the airport.

    There were two people aboard the plane, including the pilot Karen Ann Young, 46, and the co-pilot Thomas Spickermann, 47; both of them were killed in the crash.

    The FAA is investigating.

    American Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing at JFK Airport

    American Airlines flight AA-64 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on January 23rd.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Zurich, Switzerland, but had to turn back due to an electrical issue.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Emergency Landing in North-Eastern Brazil

    What: Boeing 777-200 operated by Alitalia flying from Rome Fiumicino to Buenos Aires
    Where: unplanned landing Thursday in the north- eastern Brazilian city of Recife
    When: landing was completed without further problems at 2:15 am (0515 GMT)
    Who: 295 people on board. Passengers deplaned and took another flight.
    Why: The plane experienced mechanical problems on the flight from Rome to Buenos Aires. The pilot informed the control tower that he was having technical problems.

    Alitalia is having financial problems.

    PR: FAA Proposes $395,850 Civil Penalty Against US Airways

    NEW YORK—The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing a $395,850 civil penalty against US Airways Inc., of Tempe, Ariz., for allegedly violating U.S. Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Regulations.

    The FAA conducted a periodic dangerous goods inspection of US Airways’ facilities at Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL), May 10-18, 2010. As a result of the inspection, the FAA alleges the airline committed various violations between Feb. 26 and May 12, 2010. The alleged violations involve 12 flights to or from BDL.

    In one instance, the Transportation Security Administration discovered, while inspecting passenger checked baggage, that US Airways had accepted an undeclared shipment containing ten disposable cigarette lighters filled with flammable gas. The FAA alleged the airline failed to notify the FAA of this discrepancy.

    In another instance, US Airways offered an improperly packaged shipment containing wet cell batteries filled with alkali, a corrosive, for transportation by air on a US Airways passenger-carrying flight.

    The FAA also alleged the airline failed to provide pilots with the required "accurate and legible written information" regarding 23 shipments of hazardous materials it accepted for transportation by air.

    US Airways has 30 days from the receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
