    Rescue Helocopter Crashes during Maintenance Flight

    A Metro Aviation / Life Air Rescue Eurocopter EC-135P-1 was on a test flight with the pilot and two mechanic aboard when it crashed in a field behind Metro Aviation. All three aboard were injured, and hospitalized at Willis-Knighton Hospital.

    There was fuel on the ground, so emergency responders followed hazmat protocol. The accident was close to Shreveport Downtown Airport in a field at Hawn and North Thomas Avenue.

    The leased EC135 experienced mechanical problems and was in for maintenance..

    The affected helicopter has no history of problems, and has current certification. The cause of the incident has not yet been determined or released.

  • Microlight Crashes in UK

    What: microlight which crashed at 50mph, possibly planning a short flight around the Easingwold and Thirsk
    Where: taking off a grass runway at Baxby Air Sports Club, Husthwaite, near Easingwold, North Yorkshire UK
    When: 1.30pm Thursday
    Who: the pilot, and a passenger were both taken to York District Hospital.
    Why: Unable to reach the required take-off speed on wet ground, careered througha hedge at the end of the runway into a field. Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating

    Small Plane Crashes Near Redding Municipal Airport, CA; 2 Dead

    A small plane crashed near Redding Municipal Airport, California, on November 15th.

    The incident happened when the plane, carrying two people, was on its way to Sacramento, California.

    Both occupants of the plane were killed in the crash.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Tecnam Crash in the Ukraine, 4 Aboard

    Where: Kiev Ukraine
    When: Mar 11, 2011
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: The plane owned by International Aviation Training Center fell in a tailspin and crashed near Vasilkova. It was a new plane, and the cause of the accident has not been determined. It is however, the second problem this plane has had. On its first flight it apparently had to return after 20 minutes due to problems.

    Cessna Crash-Landed in Saudi Arabia; Two US Pilots Injured

    A private Cessna aircraft, carrying 2 American pilots, crash landed near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on December 3.

    Khaled al-Khaibari, spokesperson for the General Authority of Civil Aviation, confirmed that the pilot asked for an emergency landing because the plane was running out of fuel. However, he could not make it to the airport and crash landed near the runway. The plane was travelling from Hurghada, Egypt at the time.

    The pilot and the co-pilot, both U.S. citizens, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital. Their names have not been released.

    The aircraft’s right wing was slightly damaged.

    Home-Built Plane Crashed Near Bagdad Airstrip; Pilot Injured

    A light-weight plane crashed near Bagdad airstrip in Arizona, on January 16.

    Authorities said the home-built plane went down after a strong wind gust bent its wing during a test flight.

    The pilot, identified as Donald Low, 79, of Bagdad suffered minor leg injuries and was shifted to Flagstaff Medical Center.

    The NTSB is investigating.
