    Kananaskis Pilot Dies Waiting for Air Ambulance


    What: Kananaskis Heli Tours Bell 206B JetRanger II sightseeing tour from Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino to Bow Valley
    Where: Canmore, Alberta
    When: March 30, 2012 10:30 a.m.
    Who: 1 fatality, 4 survivors
    Why: A sightseeing helicopter crashed near Grotto Mountain near Banff National Park, Canmore, killing pilot Matthew Goodine of Prince George, British Columbia. The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. Canadian Forces Base Trenton heard the emergency beacon at 12:30 and notified the mounties. EMS did not arrive until 2:45 and the pilot died while waiting to be airlifted to a hospital in Calgary. Rescue efforts on the remote back country mountain slope were hampered by high winds and snow, along with the rugged terrain. Rescue personnel rappelled from the chopper, and the two couples from Britain were airlifted in slings to be flown to hospitals.

    It began to snow around 10:30 a.m., and that may have been a factor. Weather will delay the investigation as much as a week due to snowy forecasts. There is no black box.

    Bond Sikorsky S-92 Makes Emergency Landing Due to Engine Warning Alert

    A Sikorsky S-92, Bond helicopter had to make emergency landing, when the technical warning alert light for engines started flashing.

    Media sources report that on Thursday, the helicopter was set for the ENSCO 100 jack-up rig in the North Sea, when the warning alert began displaying . The pilot then had to return and land back at the Aberdeen’s heliport.

    Nigerian Helicopter Crash Kills 4

    What: Nigerian Navy Agusta A109E Reconnaissance helicopter en route from Port Harcourt to Lago
    Where: Mmiri Ochiochi swams, in Obodo Isiokpo, Port Harcourt Nigeria
    When: Jan 26, 2010
    Who: 4 Fatalities
    Why: While en route from Warri via Brass to Port Harcourt, the helicopter crashed into a swampy area about 2 minutes flying time from Port Harcourt International Airport. Apparently naval officers on the scene prevented locals and reporters from taking photographs.

    The helicopter went into a spin, and emitted a bang before crashing. Locals on the scene used a machete to hack through a door to retrieve passengers in a rescue effort.

    New Zealand: Helicopter Missing

    What: Maritime New Zealand Robinson R22 helicopter on a training mission
    Where: Awarua, Southland New Zealand
    When: October 14, 2010
    Who: instructor and another pilot
    Why: After the last communication at 1:30 pm, at 2:15 a Robinson R22 was declared overdue.

    A search is underway utilizing three helicopters over a 1250 square kilometre area east of Bluff, including the Coastguard air patrol and Coastguard.
