    What: Air Canada Boeing 767-300 en route from Vancouver to Hawaii
    Where: Vancouver
    When: Dec 26th 2009
    Who: not available
    Why: Moments after takeoff, the pilot detected vibration in one engine, and he returned to the airport. Inspection of the aircraft revealed that the vibration was due to a bird strike. Passengers were provided a replacement flight.

    Ryanair Flight Rejects Takeoff From Palma de Mallorca Airport

    Ryanair flight FR-6579 had to reject takeoff from Palma de Mallorca Airport, Spain, on April 22nd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Barcelona, Spain, when the crew received a cargo door indication and rejected takeoff.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Birgenair: Historical Fatality

    What: Birgenair Boeing 757-200 en route from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to Frankfurt Germany
    Where: Puerto Plata
    When: February 6th 1996
    Who: 176 passengers 13 crew
    Why: The plane had been parked for a month in Puerto Plata. After takeoff, disagreeing airspeeds resulted in simultaneous stall and overspeed warnings that precipitated a crash that killed 176 passengers and 13 crew fifteen minutes after takeoff.

    A black and yellow mud dauber wasp was found lodged in the tube.

    Delhi-Bound Oman Air Plane Hits Severe Turbulence

    Oman Air flight WY-245 encountered severe turbulence while heading to Delhi, India, on March 4th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was flying from Muscat, Oman, when it was hit by turbulence that injured several people.

    The plane continued for a safe landing.

    The injured were given medical attention immediately after landing.

    Southwest Emergency Landing at Islip NY

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 Flight 195 en route from Islip,NY to to Fort Myers, Fla
    Where: returned to New York’s Long Island MacArthur Airport
    When: landed safely at 10:24 a.m
    Who: 127 passengers aboard and 5 crew members
    Why: The 737 experienced engine trouble which forced them to shut down the left hand engine; they returned to MacArthur Airport for a safe landing. Contrary to rumor, lightning did not cause an engine fire.

    The addendum to this is that mechanics are now looking over this 737. Maybe they should have had this inspection before it took off. D’ya think?

    Las Vegas-Bound Southwest Airlines Flight Hits Turbulence; 2 Injured

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight WN-1932 encountered turbulence while descending towards Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 31st.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was flying from Seattle, Washington, when it ran into severe turbulence.

    The plane continued for a safe landing.

    Two crew members sustained minor injuries in the incident.
