Who: The pilot Mark Sherman, was the only one aboard
Why: Prior to landing, the pilot had to circle as another plane was on the runway. His plane lost power, landed 200 feet NE of the runway and skidded 50 yards until the wheels and tailsection broke off. Sherman who suffered a cracked vertebra was taken to Allen County Hospital and then transferred to Wichita hospital .

Why: Steve Appleton was flying an experimental Lancair IVP-TP. On his second flight, he took off, turned back to the airport. He contacted ATC and said ““321 Lima Charlie, I’d like to turn back in, and uhh, land. Coming back in.” and then crashed.Safety Board investigator Zoe Keliher said “Appleton took off at about 8:46 a.m, got the plane five to 10 feet off the ground and landed again. He returned to the hangar, then took off again at 8:54 a.m.; he got to between 100 and 200 feet when, according to witnesses, the plane suddenly stopped, banked and fell to the ground.”
It crashed between two runways.In 2004, Appleton survived a crash that gave him a punctured lung, head injuries, ruptured disk and broken bone. This time, Appleton died at the scene. The plane was badly burned.
He was the CEO of Micron.
He had several planes which he flew frequently. (He has owned 20 planes.)
The four seat experimental plane is sold as a kit. This one was built by built by Carlos Garza.

Why: On approach to the runway, the plane landed 1500-2000 feet short of the runway and caught fire. No cause is given, but it is under investigation by the FAA. Co-owner Emmett O’Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.UPDATE
The FAA confirms that O’Ryan was caught flying in 2007 in Olive Branch in an unsafe aircraft not meeting FAA standards. Records show the incident involved the same plane in this crashThe injured were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Three are non-critical.
Piloting the plane was businessman Emmett O’Ryan. Aboard was his daughter Ruth, his son Robert, and Robert’s friend Patrick Jenning.

Small Homebuilt Plane Crashed West of Lolo Pass, Pilot Killed
A homebuilt single engine Lancair Legacy small plane crashed near Blacklead Mountain, about eight miles west of Lolo Pass, in the mountainous area of Clearwater National Forest, Idaho, on July 28.The incident happened when the pilot Milton Meyer, 72, was flying from his home in Richland, Washington, to attend the Experimental Aircraft Association Convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
A helicopter from Two Bear Air in Flathead County located the wreckage of the plane and the pilot’s dead body, at around 11:30 a.m.
Clearwater County Idaho Sheriff authorities said the pilot radioed being in trouble to Helena Regional Airport around mid-morning. He reported having mechanical problems in the plane and oil on his windshield. The pilot said he might not be able to land in Helena, as planned.
The FAA and the NTSB are looking into the cause of accident.

Why: Before touching down, the crew reported technical problems. A hundred meters before the runway threshold, they landed onto grass, damaged a perimeter fence, and had a flat, but managed to taxi to the gate. There were no injuries. An alternate plane will be provided for the next leg of the journey.
