Ireland: Missing Wreckage, Bodies Found

What: Piper PA-28 single-engined plane en route from Gloucester to County Kildare in the Irish Republic
Where: remote mountain region in the Corriebracks, just south of Hollywood, in the west of the county, 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Dublin, in a mountainous area accessible only by helicopter.
When: Plane went missing Saturday
Who: pilot, Sharif Booz, was travelling with his wife, Margaret, his son and his son’s friend
Why: When it was discovered to be missing, the plane’s last-known location was determined to be over the Wicklow mountains at around 12.30 pm, The plane was found with its nose was embedded in the ground.

    Six lost in Piper Crash Near Chatel-St-Denis


    What: Groupement de Vol à Moteur Lausanne Piper PA-32R-301 Saratoga SP en route from Blécherette to Ecuvillens.
    Where: Chatel-St-Denis, near Tatroz
    When: April 28, 2012
    Who: 6 aboard, 6 fatalities
    Why: Four men and two women died when their Piper apparently stalled and crashed in a field near Chatel-St-Denis. The plane circled low over the village before crashing. They were about thirty minutes out of Lausanne-Blécherette.

    50 firefighters responded to the scene and a team of psychologists.

    The plane is a total loss. The unidentified remains were taken to the University Center of Legal Medicine in Lausanne

    Pilot in Training Crash in AZ

    What: TransPac Aviation Academy Piper PA-28-181 training flight from Deer Valley Airport
    Where: Wittmann, Arizona
    When: Dec 1, 2010
    Who: student pilot
    Why: A student pilot from Transpac Aviation academy was airlifted to John C Lincoln hospital with minor injuries after landing so hard in the desert that the wheels disengaged. The cause of the incident is unknown but under investigation.

    In January, 24 year old Chinese TransPac student pilot Amy Zhai was killed in a 2002 single-engine Piper Archer crash near Deer Valley Airport.

    Parachuted Pilot Missing near Milton FL

    Why: After the pilot reported an in flight emergency, the piper crashed into a swampy area 1 mile from Milton FL. The pilot parachuted out but has not yet been found

    Piper Cherokee Lost/Found in San Gorgonio Wilderness

    What: missing Piper Cherokee registered to Douglas Bowles of Hesperia
    Where: mountainside in the San Gorgonio Wilderness
    When: Flight disappeared Monday
    Who: four occupants: Douglas Bowles of Hesperia, and his passengers Joshua Chlebek, 28, David Helland, 60, and Oludare Akinwunmi, 29.
    Why: On 2:30 p.m. Monday a sheriff’s helicopter pilot spotted a wreckage. Searchers rappelled down to it; no survivors have been found.

    Family Piper Lost in Miss. Storm

    What: Rgd. Flt Away LLC Piper PA-32R-300 Cherokee Lance en route from Andrews, N.C. to Oxford, Miss
    Where: Mississippi
    When: July 8 2012
    Who: 3 aboard
    Why: James Bartley Jr.; his wife, Terry Bartley; and their youngest daughter, Caroline Bartley died when their plane broke apart in the air over Mississippi. They were flying from a vacation home in North Carolina to the University of Mississippi. There was lightning reported in the vicinity when the plane crashed. The wreckage is described as burned and crumpled and may have fallen from an altitude of 8000 feet.

    Rescue teams responded on foot, four-wheelers and horseback.

    The debris field was spread over half of a mile n a field near County Road 4111 in New Site, Mississippi; the fuselage was found by a medical helicopter.
