Hot Cows Set off Alarms

Almost 400 cows aboard a Boeing 747 heated the craft up so much they set off the fire alarm. Pilots diverted from their location over the Irish sea, and made a safe landing at Heathrow.

This did not happen April 1st, so we are presuming it is an actual event.

None of the 390 cattle were injured. The carrier may wish to remain nameless as the name of airline involved was not released, perhaps fearing a reduction in cattle bookings. (Yes, this is sarcasm. Cows can’t read and their choice of carrier is not likely to hinge on written emergency reports.)

After landing, maintenance crews checked the plane’s fire alarm system and found no smoke or fire, concluding that cows were the culprits causing excessive heat. We assume none of the cows were smoking.

The flight was en route from Lima International and had 117 passengers, 2 flught crew, 4 cabin crew, all fatally injured. The flight crew made no indication to problems to ATC and impactd near the top of a ridge 2.5 miles west of runway 9 The main fuselage carried over the initial ridge and impacted ner the top of the second ridge 1/3 mile east. The empennage fell to an arroyo in between. Factors that contributed to the crash were poor night time visibility, darkness and the heavy fog.

    Faulty Air-Conditioning System Prompts Qantas Jet to Make Priority Landing in Perth

    QantasQantas flight QF2 had to divert and make a priority landing at Perth Airport, Australia, on December 8.

    The Airbus A380 was on its way from Dubai to Sydney when a fault in its air-conditioning system was noticed. The pilot then quickly descended to 10,000 feet and sought permission for a priority landing in Perth.

    The plane landed safely and no one was hurt.

    An airline spokesperson said, “It was a fault with the air-conditioning so the engineers are having a look at that now.”

    What: ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-300 en route from Singapore to Tokyo
    Where: South China Sea
    When: Oct 9th 2011
    Who: 176 passengers and 10 crew
    Why: During breakfast, the flight encountered turbulence which injured five aboard. Those injured included three of the crew.

    Wake turbulence has been suggested. If so, details will show up in the investigation.

    The flight made a safe landing in Tokyo.

    Frontier Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Indianapolis

    frontier airlinesFrontier Airlines flight F9-1334 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 4th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Chicago, Illinois, to West Palm Beach, Florida, was diverted due to issues with the fuel system.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 205 passengers and 7 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    American Airlines Plane makes Safe Landing in Texas after Losing Cabin Pressure

    American Airlines flight AA-2594 made a safe emergency landing at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, on May 8th.

    The Boeing 737-800 flying from Boston, Massachusetts, was mid-air when it initiated a rapid descent due to loss of cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely.

    According to the FAA, 15 passengers and 1 crew member sustained injuries.

    Plane Carrying Medan Crash Victims’ Dead Bodies Aborts Take-Off Twice

    A Hercules A-1321 military plane had to cancel take-off from Soewondo Air Force Base in Medan, Indonesia, twice, on July 3.

    The airplane was prepared to transport 14 dead bodies of the victims of June 30 Hercules crash in Medan, along with their families, to Ranai, Natuna, Riau Islands in Indonesia. However, it had to abort its take-off at 6:30 a.m. due to engine malfunction.

    Later, the plane was again prepared to depart but the flight was aborted for the second time due to low visibility and bad whether at 6 p.m.

    The passengers and dead bodies were transported in a CN-235 airplane later.
