    KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles

    KLM flight KL-602 had to return and make an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on November 18th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for Amsterdam, Netherlands, but had to turn back due to an engine problem.

    JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Fort Lauderdale

    JetBlue flight B6-517 had to return and make an emergency landing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on May 13th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Mexico City, Mexico, but had to turn back due to the failure of weather radar.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Cathay Pacific Makes Emergency Landing

    What: Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER en route from Hong Kong to Los Angeles
    Where: Anchorage
    When: Nov 22, 2012
    Who: 288 passengers and 18 crew
    Why: While en route, the Cathay Pacific developed a pressurization problem and had to make an emergency landing in Alaska. There were no injuries. When the pressurization problem developed, oxygen masks were deployed.

    Cathay Pacific and the Civil Aviation Department will be investigating.

    Passengers were provided hotel accommodations and an alternative flight.

    The cause of the pressurization problem is speculated to be a malfunctioning valve in the air system

    Russia: Wing Falls off New Antonov, Crash Kills 6

    What: Voronezh Aircraft Joint Stock Company (VASO) Antonov 148-100E on the border between the Voronezh and Belgorod regions.
    Where: Garbuzovo, Belgorod Region (Russia)
    When: Mar 05, 2011
    Who: 6 fatalities
    Why: The new Antonov-148, being developed in the Ukraine in cooperation with 14 countries, and was sold by the Voronezh Aircraft Factory to the Myanmar Air Force and is designed to carry 79 to 99 passengers. Hundreds of technical problems have been recorded, but the plane is still in its testing phase. On a test flight to Myanmar, witnesses saw a wing and the tail fall off the plane while it was still in the air over a school and kindergarten. The crew managed to avoid the school, and the plane crashed and burned in a field.

    Two pilots from Myanmar died at the crash. Those killed included Yuri Zubritsky, First Class Test Pilot, Captain; First Class Test Flight Navigator Vladimir Yasko; Test Engineer Alexander Korolyov; Lead Flight Test Engineer Anatoly Samoshkin and two Republic of the Union of Myanmar pilots Htein-Lin-Aung and Zaw-Htun-Aung. The flight recorders have been recovered.

    Five engines and 13 firefighters responded.

    The plane’s contractor was JSC Voronezh Aircraft Manufacturing Company. (VASO). The plane had flown 31 flights.

    Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Kansas City

    Delta Airlines flight DL-923 made an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 16th.

    The Boeing 717-200 plane flying from Detroit, Michigan, was descending toward Kansas City when the crew requested emergency assistance due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventeen people aboard remained unharmed.

    Pilot Walks Away after Helicopter Crashes near Ketchum, OK.

    helicoptersaopA Robinson R-44 helicopter crashed in a hayfield around 2 miles north of Ketchum, Oklahoma, on August 25th.

    FAA authorities said the helicopter, flying from Ketchum airport, went down after it lost its tail rotor.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, remained uninjured.

    The accident is being investigated.
