    Volotea Airlines Flight Diverts to Athens due to Engine Problem

    Volotea Airlines flight V7-1447 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Athens, Greece, on September 25th.

    The Boeing 717-200 plane heading from Mykonos, Greece, to Venice, Italy, was diverted after the crew reported an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixteen people aboard remained unharmed.

    What: Air Canada Boeing 767-300 en route from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Zurich
    Where: over Atlantic
    When: Jan 14th 20118 am
    Who: 10 passengers, 2 crew
    Why: While en route to Switzerland, off the coast of Ireland and three hours out of Zurich, the plane encountered clear air turbulence, tossing passengers who were not buckled in 3 feet above their seats.

    A passenger who was a doctor attended the ten passengers and two crew members who were injured. The plane continued on to make a safe landing in Zurich. Seven of those injured were hospitalized but they were all minor injuries.

    American Airlines Plane Returns to London Heathrow Airport

    american airlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-87 had to return and make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, United Kingdom, on June 17th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane took off for Chicago, Illinois, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew received an indication of outflow valve malfunction.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Virgin Emergency Diversion to Hobart

    What: Virgin Australia Boeing 737-700 en route from Brisbane to Launceston
    Where: Hobart
    When: Jun 16th 2011
    Who: 56 passengers
    Why: On approach to Launceton, the crew noted a flaps asymmetry, and aborted the approach. They burned off fuel, and diverted to Hobart where they made a safe landing. Passengers feared for their lives but apparently were not in as much danger as they feared.

    Subsequently, due to Puyehue ash concerns, they took a bus to Launceston. The flight was carrying the Gold Coast Suns football team.

    Delta Emergency Landing In Ontario

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Atlanta GA to Ontario CA
    Where: Ontario
    When: Jun 23rd 2009
    Who: 190 passengers
    Why: Forty minutes before landing, the Boeing’s right engine ingested ice from the fuselage and started vibrating. The crew shut down the right engine, descended to a lower altitude and flew on the left engine successfully to Ontario.
