    Emergency Landing in Waterloo

    The flight was en route when smoke developed in the cockpit.

    THe smoke is being blamed on a leaky oil seal dripping oil on to the muffler.

    The plane landed with emergency services on standby but taxied on its own steam to the hanger.

    No injuries were reported.

    Cessna Accident in Juneau AK

    Why: While on a training flight, pilots were landing at Juneau International Airport on a wet runway when the plane’s gear collapsed.

    The pilot had been practicing touch-and-go landings.

    The plane came to rest on its side. The plane suffered significant damage. The runway was tied-up as the plane was towed to an aircraft parking area. The pilot and passenger survived.

    Schon Air Training Flight Crashes

    Why: The plane was on a training flight and developed a technical problem.

    Captain Fahad and trainee pilot Abu Bakar took off from Karachi at 4 pm and at 5:25 they were losing altitude and struggling to return to the airport.

    The pilots said they made a hard landing near Check Post No 3 of Malir Cantonment, a defense installation.

    Reports are that the plane is damaged beyond repair.

    Palm Beach Cessna Crash in John Prince Park

    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: The Cessna slammed into a stand of palm trees at 1:30 p.m. on the south shore of Square Lake, exploding at John Prince Park, west of Lake Worth, on Saturday afternoon. The pilot died in the impact.

    The park is located between Palm Beach State College and Lantana airport. People who were at the park who witnessed the crash described the explosion and black smoke. THey immediately tried to help but the plane burst into flames.

    The plane was registered to SDSEF Leasing of Miami Lakes.

    Thirty minutes after impact, Palm Beach County sheriff’s cars and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue vehicles arrived and secured the area.

    Flat on Landing, Intrepid Nepal Pilots OK

    Why: A Goma Air Flight from Nepalganj Airport to Dolpa suffered a blown tire when landing at 10:00 a.m. at Jufal Airport.

    The plane was carrying cargo from Nepalgunj.

    Two crew members, Sanjiv Shrestha and Prajjwal Bhattarai were aboard the flight. There were no passengers aboard and the plane suffered slight damage. Goma Air sent in flight engineers to make repairs. Airport services were temporarily suspended while the plane was on the runway.

    A blown tire is more along the lines of a hard landing rather than a “crash” as we have seen reported.

    Tropic Air Táxi Emergency Landing in São Paulo

    Why: The corporate jet sustained substantial damage in a runway excursion. The captain, co-pilot and passenger were all injured on landing three people were injured, one with head trauma, one with chest injuries one hospitalized with lumbar spine injury. The plane landed, bounced and continued down a slope where it crashed at the perimeter fence near Avenida dos Bandeirantes.

    The accident closed Congonhas Airport for an hour afterwards. At the time of the accident, the plane was in good standing with the Annual Maintenance Inspection (AMI) and the Certificate of Airworthiness (CA) was valid until November 2013.

    Fed Ex Crash in Wichita

    Where: West 47th Street South, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport
    When: Nov. 6, 2012
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: Pilot Brian Quinn had taken off from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport but turned back, declaring Mayday, after developing engine trouble, with “oil on the windshield.”

    The pilot landed in a grass field, crossed it and struck a tree row two miles south of the airport.

    He died at the scene. Sedgwick County and Wichita emergency workers responded. The accident is under investigation.

    California Case Settlement Underway for Ingrams, Chan, and Hudletons

    Three settlements of five cases have finally been made in the lawsuits concerning the plane crash that killed Brian Finn, Andrew Ingram, and pilot Douglas Bourn. In 2010, Bourn’s Cessna 310R clipped high-voltage power lines and a utility tower in dense fog crashing into a Beech Street neighborhood. Ingram’s parents and aunt, Finn’s wife and daughter, and East Palo Alto residents Ervin and Pinkie Hudleton have settled, but no agreement has been reached with Lisa Jones and Jose Cortez-Herrera. Jones’ day care center and home, and Cortez-Herrera house were damaged in the accident.

    Details of the settlements have not been published.

    Cessna Crash in Tyrol, 6 fatalities, 2 survivors

    Why: A Cessna that crashed in in Tyrol Innsbruck-Land killed six. Two aboard survived the crash. The pilot made an emergency call before losing contact with ATC.

    The passengers were Tyrolean, and took off at 6:50 for Valencia. An area hunter heard the plane before it impacted.Two of those aboard extricated themselves from the plane. One was found burned in the forest, another was ambulatory, there to greet the rescue crew around 7:42. One survivor had minor injuries, and the other required surgery.

    Before the crash, the flight lost contact. After the helicopter rescue was called off due to heavy fog and low lying clouds, rescuers arrived on foot, thirty minutes after the first alarm. The rescue was coordinated by 70 Red Cross, 100 firemen, 20 local police and 12 crime scene investigators (detectives). Offsite, family members gathered in a building near Innsbruck State Police station were taken care of by Red Cross.

    The pilot who was from Saalfelden, Salzburg was killed in the crash. Two of the victims were identified as hoteliers Zellberg and Mayrhofen.

    The remains were taken to Innsburck. The plane was charred, and left a 100 meter trail in the forest. A wing was found on the slope of the forest.

    Acrobatic Plane Crashes during Indonesian Airshow

    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: During the Bandung Air Show 2012 at Husein Sastranegara Int. Airport, a training aircraft crashed during a maneuver killing the pilot and co-pilot. After completing five maneuvers, the Bravo 202 aircraft was flying low when the pilots crashed, sending up a fireball.

    The pilot was Air Vice Marshall (ret.) Nurman Lubis. The co-pilot was identified as Col. (ret.) Tonny Haryono. Their remains have been taken to Bandung’s Hasan Sadikin Hospital. The men were members of the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation, who owns the plane.

    Lubis was an opthalmologist.

    Cessna Skyhawk Flips on Short Field Takeoff

    Why: The flight did not achieve lift on takeoff, possibly due to the combined effects of uphill runway, tailwind and damp grass surface.

    After the pilot’s attempt to rotate failed, the plane overran the runway, passed through a hedge and flipped.

    The pilot was able to secure the plane and assist the passenger’s exit.

    Cessna Crash in Rome Kills 2, Burns 30 cars

    Where: Ciampino, Rome, Italy
    When: Sept 7, 2012
    Who: 2 fatalities
    Why: In Rome, a Cessna has crashed in a car depot near Ciampino airport. Thirty cars sequestered by police were damaged.

    The two aboard were killed on impact. They had been intending to land at Urbe airport in Rome but impacted at 167 Via Fioranello. Alfredo Segariol and Antonio Salvoldi, 39, Brescia were in the air performing a photographic surveys for the Rossi company. After impact, the Cessna caught fire; and the fire spread to gut thirty cars at the depot. The plume of smoke was visible across the city.

    It is not yet known if the plane had mechanical trouble or ran out of fuel.

    Missing Plane found in Borneo

    Why: Four passengers who had been on a chartered Cessna have been found on Borneo Island, in Kutai National Park at the wreckage site in a mountainous area. There were no survivors.

    The remains of Australian Peter John Elliott and three Indonesianshave been flown to a Samarinda hospital.

    The flight left Samarinda to survey a coal mining site. Elliot was a specialist in using geophysics equipment, and general manager of Elliott Geophysics International.

    Cessna Crashes in Canadian Cornfield

    The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is sending investigators to the site of a crash involving a Cessna 172 that occurred near Mapleton Township, Ont., Friday night.

    OPP say the plane was found in a cornfield and that the four occupants – three men and one woman were found dead.

    Mapleton Township is located north of Kitchener, Ont.

    Why: A 19 year old woman and 3 twenty year olds were in a rental plane sightseeing when it crashed in the middle of a 50 acre corn field. The plane went off radar about nineteen minutes before emergency crews were notified (8:39).

    Witnesses saw the plane making spirals in the air before it pointed nose down, began sputtering and then the “the engine went dead silent and plummeted down. And within a second or two we heard a really loud bump.”

    The wreckage was located at 10:30 pm. The farmer carved out a path for investigators with his tractor.

    The remains have been taken to a Hamilton hospital.

    Plane Missing over Borneo

    Why: A Cessna that had been chartered by Elliott Geophysics International took off from Temindung Airport is missing. Four people (three Indonesians and an Australian) were on the flight which was going to survey a Bontang coal mine. A search and rescue team has been deployed

    Cessna Crashes in Village Kindergarten yard

    Why: The light aircraft crashed and fell not far from St. Petersberg. The two pilots, 1st pilot Victor Ignatiev and 2nd pilot Alexei Syrchin died in the crash near the village of Annino.

    The pilots were taking the plane out just prior to a routine certification test. The pilots were attempted to land because they experienced engine problems, but they did not reach the runway and the plane impacted in the yard of a village kindergarten. No children were in the yard at the time of the crash.

    The plane ignited on impact. One pilot was ejected, and one is locked in the cockpit.

    42 people and 20 vehicles were involved in the rescue/recovery effort.

    The plane had undergone repairs in Poland in 2007.

    Cessna Crash Cuts Bolivian Festival Short

    Why: The festival commemorating the 303rd anniversary of the founding of San Joaquin was cancelled.

    A small stunt plane was performing at the event doing cartwheels when the the pilot crashed into a house. The pilot was killed along with a woman in the house. Another person on the ground was injured. Witnesses said Two planes were performing cartwheels when one of them made a turn. the plane’s right wing hit the fence of the cemetery, hit some trees and crashed into the roof of a residence.

    Pilot Ramón Bilbao Mayuve (45) was killed in the crash. The woman who died, Karina Angelica Robles (23) was in her house when it was struck by the aircraft. Sixteen year old Reich Guardia Sosa was seriously injured and hospitalized in the capital.

    Medical Organ Delivery Accident, Santiago de Compostela Airport, Spain

    Why: Alexander Well, 37 year-old from Barcelona and Daniel Fernandez, a 35-year-old from Bilbao were thrown from the Cessna Citation when it crashed.

    ATC lost contact with ATC on approach to Compostela Airport.

    The crew was on a medical mission carrying organs for transplant. The airplane crashed in a forest area near the airport and his crew died on the spot. No cause of the accident has been released there are reports from local sources who say that it but could be related to poor visibility conditions.

    Reports of Crash Are Greatly Exaggerated

The plane that had been flying low over the ocean while filming made a safe landing at Ensenada airport. Witnesses thought the plane crashed into the ocean and called authorities–but there was no crash, no accident, and only a safe landing.

    Ex-legislator killed when Cessna Flips at Beluga Lake

    Where: Beluga Lake, Homer, Alaska

    Why: Five passengers were aboard a plane that flipped on landing in Beluga Lake. The fire department found the plane upside down and underwater. Four passengers were evacuated safely; one passenger was trapped underwater and seatbelted in, but emergency teams were reportedly able to get a pulse. An inflatable Zodiac boat assisted in the rescue.

    The victim, Cheryll Heinze, a former state representative from Anchorage, was taken to Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage for treatment but was pronounced deceased at South Peninsula Hospital.

    The plane was piloted by 71-year-old Evan “Joe” Griffith, general manager at MEA,Matanuska Electric Association. Heinze was director of public affairs for MEA.

    Two Fatalities in Portuguese Cessna Crash on Training Flight

    Why: A pilot of the Leávia flight school and a student pilot had made one pass at the runway at Tires aerodrome in Cascais, and had circled to make another pass when they crashed on a training flight. The plane impacted between residences in Matarraque, Sao Domingos de Rana, Portugal.

    Judging by proximity, investigators conjecture that the pilot may have been intending to make an emergency landing on the A5. The plane ended up in a yard between two houses on Saudade street about two miles from the airfield. The plane crashed but did not burn. There were no casualties on the ground. Emergency responders included corporate volunteer firefighters and and an ambulance from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine.

    The instructor was 45 and his student was in her twenties.

    Witnesses say they heard the engine stop before the plane crashed. The “Gabinete de Prevenção e Investigação de Acidentes com Aeronaves” is investigating.

    When: June 21, 2012
    Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
    Why: After disappearing from radar at 2:30, while on a training flight, a 71 year old flight instructor and 44 year old student pilot were in a fatal crash in Salzburg near Voglhub village. The flight was from Gmunden to Salzburg. After the crash, the plane’s beacon helped rescuers find the wreckage.

    Rescuers attempted to cut the victims out until 4:30 pm. They did not long survive the collision. The area was foamed to prevent fire. The crash site was a field near the Western Railway.

    Banner Flight Ends in San Diego Bay

    Where: San Diego bay
    When: May 26, 2012, 4:20 p.m
    Who: 2 aboard, no fatalities
    Why: A Cessna towing a banner lost engine power. Pilots informed ATC, cut free the banner they were towing and ended up in San Diego Bay, Missing the Hilton Hotel. The plane sank; the pilot and passenger aboard were recovered uninjured, by passing boaters.

    A salvage company is going to recover the plane from the bay.
