What: Cessna 150 Where: San Diego bay When: May 26, 2012, 4:20 p.m Who: 2 aboard, no fatalities Why: A Cessna towing a banner lost engine power. Pilots informed ATC, cut free the banner they were towing and ended up in San Diego Bay, Missing the Hilton Hotel. The plane sank; the pilot and passenger aboard were recovered uninjured, by passing boaters.
A salvage company is going to recover the plane from the bay.
At 5:30 p.m., a single engine Mooney M20L registered to William and Devon Logan of San Diego lost power over San Diego, struck a light pole and crashed in the Kearny Mesa Costco parking lot. One woman died at the scene; the other was evacuated to Sharp Memorial Hospital. Two witnesses who were assisting the injured, were treated for burns. The pilot managed to find the only spot that would not cause a lot of damage to people and property.
The registration says the plane flies with a Porsche engine.

What: Dana Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Abuja to Lagos, Nigeria Where: Iju neighborhood, Lagos When: June 3, 2012 Who: 153 passengers Why: Weather was clear. The Dana Air flight experienced engine trouble first in one engine, then the other and was nearing to the airport when it apparently struck a cable and crashed into a residential area less than four miles from the airport. There are no survivors.
Pilots already flying on one engine had slowed, then the second engine failed.
The number of people aboard is not definite as it is not reflected in the flight manifest. Apparently some paper-ticketed passengers are not recorded on computer records, and the passenger manifest is in the process of being double-checked.
The plane had refueled which contributed to a massive fire. The number of casualties in the furniture store/workshop and apartment building that were struck is unknown.
The Nigerian Red Cross, Nigeria’s air crash safety investigators,2 firetrucks and 50 rescue personnel arrived on the scene. A number of charred remains have been recovered.
Local residents report hearing a loud explosion that sounded like a bomb.

What: VIRGIN Australia Boeing en route from Brisbane to Los Angeles Where: Los Angeles When: August 27, 2012 Who: 416 passengers Why: The flight made an emergency landing in LA when it developed problems with its landing gear.
Emergency services were on standby during the landing. Fortunately, pilots made a safe landing with no injuries reported.

On July 4, a North-Way Chrysler Motors Ltd. Cessna 182 Skylane with three aboard was near Griffith Island in Georgian bay and flipped as the pilot was trying to land at an island airstrip but came to rest 220 meters short of the runway. All three aboard succumbed to fatal injuries.
The float plane crash occurred off the south end of the Griffith Island. The fatalities were family members 45, 52 and 72.
A Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre out of Trenton, On circled the downed plane. Three ambulances were on standby at Big Bay dock.
When assistance arrived, the plane was upside down and partially submerged. The Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP and Cape Croker police marine units attended, along with Grey and Bruce County paramedics, Inter Township firefighters, Owen Sound firefighters and the Ministry of Natural Resources were dispatched to the scene. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada’s air division arrived Friday.
