ASL Airlines Belgium freight flight 3V-811 had to return and make an emergency landing in Liege, Belgium, on November 24th.
The Boeing 747-400 freighter plane took off for Jinan, China, but had to turn back after the engines ingested several birds.
The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
United Airlines flight UA-14 made an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on June 1st.
The Boeing 767-300 plane flying from Honolulu, Hawaii, was descending toward Newark when the crew requested emergency assistance due to smoke in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

What: Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Los Angeles,CA to Seoul South Korea

Why: While en route, undisclosed engine problems caused the pilot to choose to shut down and engine and divert to Anchorage. On landing, the plane was towed to the gate. No indication is provided on when alternative travel accommodations were provided for passengers.
A small plane made an emergency landing on U.S. highway 27, just north of Interstate 75, in Weston, Broward County, Florida, on January 24.
The Cessna 172 was en-route from Palm Beach County to Key West when the pilot Arnaldo Santiago, of Palm Beach Gardens, noticed some issue in the plane and decided to land on the highway.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were three people aboard at the time; none of them were injured.
An Air India Boeing 777 en route from Newark to Mumbai had 292 passengers and 21 crew aboard when it took off at 4:36 in the afternoon. Witnesses saw flames shooting from the left engine when flight 144 took off.
Pilots reported problems with the left engine, and twenty-two minutes after taking off, returned to land in Newark.
The landing must have been pretty hard, because tires were blown. The airport’s New Jersey spokeswoman Erica Dumas described it as a “rough landing.” Also, the left engine problems were attributed to a bird strike.
Passengers disembarked and were provided hotel accommodations while they rebooked.

Regional Express Airlines flight ZL-821 had to return for an emergency landing in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, on March 23rd.
The plane took off for Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, but had to turn back after its right hand engine failed.
The plane landed back safely. All 23 passengers and 3 crew members remained unharmed.
Delta Airlines flight DL-2668 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on November 10th.
The Boeing 717-200 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Boston, Massachusetts, was diverted after the crew reported an engine failure.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 97 people aboard remained safe.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
