American Airlines Plane makes Safe Landing in Florida; 3 Injured

    Arizona Plane Crash Kills Pilot

    On December 18, 2012, a pilot had been en route when he encountered unfavorable weather conditions around Payson, and diverted to Phoenix.

    He was flying at night and the Ameriflight Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftain crashed in mountainous terrain in the Mazatzal Wilderness, Arizona.

    ATC lost contact with the pilot 50 miles northeast of Phoenix.

    The pilot has been tentatively identified as David Kappes. After a Tuesday evening search was cancelled by snowy weather, a Public Safety helicopter located the wreckage on a mountainside northwest of the Barnhardt Trailhead, at about 7,000 feet 10 a.m. Wednesday.

    Sheriffs who were dropped off hiked up to the site and located the remains.

    United Airlines Flight Returns to Guam due to Engine Problem

    United Airlines flight UA-828 had to return and make an emergency landing in Guam, on November 27th.

    The Boeing 777-200 plane took off for Narita International Airport, Japan, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an engine problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Giant Panda Deflates on San Diego


    No, it’s not the return of a Japanese series of Kaiju films featuring the character Godzilla vs the Giant Panda.

    A hot air ran away from home. The balloon and its balloonist fell in a residential area in San Diego County.

    The balloon did not land on any houses though there were some close calls with chimneys and such. This is the same balloon that escaped to land on a median in Carmel Valley in July.

    Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Diverts Due to Cabin Smoke

    What: Aerolineas Argentinas Boeing 737-500 en route from Buenos Aires to Santa Cruz Bolivia
    Where: Rosario Argentina
    When: June 29
    Who: 108 on board
    Why: When the cabin filled with smoke, the plane was diverted to Argentina where it landed safely. Passengers debarked without further event.

    Aviatrans Emergency Landing in Chelyabinsk after engine failure

    On December 26, 2012, an Atran-Aviatrans Antonov 12BP en route from Chelyabinsk to Vorkuta with eight crew aboard made an emergency landing in Chelyabinsk after an engine failed.

    Pilots landed safely 15 minutes after take-off due to a malfunction of the fourth engine.

    The plane is undergoing inspection. No injuries were reported and no damage to the plane during landing.
