    ExpressJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Newport News

    ExpressJet flight DL-5381 had to make an emergency landing in Newport News, Virginia, on July 9th.

    The plane flying from Atlanta, Georgia, was on approach to Newport News when the crew reported a possible nose gear steering issue and declared an emergency.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Ocean Off Cocoa Beach Pier

    A Challenger II amateur-built experimental seaplane made an emergency landing in ocean water, around 2 miles south of Cocoa Beach Pier, Florida, at about 12:50 p.m. on November 13.

    The Brevard County sheriff’s office confirmed that the pilot decided to make an emergency landing after the seaplane developed some engine problems.

    The pilot remained uninjured. His identity has not yet been disclosed.

    The red-colored plane is registered to a Virginia Beach resident Charles Guiter.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Media Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Calgary

    A media helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a field at an elementary school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on October 31.

    The chopper, used by Global Television and radio station NewsTalk 770, was forced to make a controlled landing after its engine failed while flying at 5,000 feet over western Calgary.

    The emergency crews spotted the helicopter in Nellie McClung Elementary School located at 2315 Palliser Dr. S.W.

    There were 2 people aboard at the time of incident; both of them remained uninjured.

    The helicopter was not damaged.

    ASL Airlines Ireland Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Italy

    ASL Airlines Ireland flight QY-135 had to return and make an emergency landing at Orio al Serio International Airport, Italy, on August 23rd.

    The Airbus A300-600 plane took off for Leipzig, Germany, but had to turn back after the crew failed to retract the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Crashed in Sarasota County, Florida

    PittsA Pitts S-2B crashed into the waters off Siesta Key beach in Sarasota County, Florida, at around 12:15 p.m. on August 12.

    The pilot, Earle Swan, 75, and his passenger, Martin Thomas, 51, were on a training flight when suddenly the single-engine plane started experiencing engine trouble. According to the FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen, “Shortly after departure from Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, the pilot contacted radar controllers in Tampa to report an engine problem…He said that he would land on the beach.”

    The plane tumbled across the beach and landed in an upside down position. The Pilot remained unhurt while his passenger sustained minor lacerations and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

    The FAA records show that the plane was registered to Anthony T. Nourse, of 5112 Inverness Drive, Sarasota.
