Who: 129 on board
Why: When the pilot detected problems with the automatic pilot system, they followed standard operating procedure and returned to the airport for a safe landing. Passengers debarked on to the runway and were transported to the terminal where they were scheduled to take an alternative flight.

Why: While on route, the pitot heating system failed. The resulting nreliable airspeed indications convinced the crew to divert to Bergen, where they made a safe landing.Offhand, I think this may be the first that I recall pitot tube issues on a de Havilland Dash 8-100. I wonder if these were thales tubes; and I wonder if airspeed can not be better determined with a more robust methodology. If I were a manufacturer, I would certainly have my engineers thinking about developing alternative technologies to bring to market.

What: Oman Air Boeing 737-800 en route from Muscat to Chennai
Where: Mumbai
When: May 25, 2009
Who: 140 passengers
Why: When a passenger found a suspicious object and a letter which threatened to kill all the passengers aboard the flight, the crew requested an emergency landing.Another source quoted: ‘a flight attendant had found a note in one of the lavatories saying “you will all die. Bye.”‘
The flight landed safely and the passengers were directed to another plane.

What: Jet Blue Flight 1327 Embraer ERJ-190 en route from Boston
Where: Baltimore
When: Dec 14 2012 7:17 pm
Who: 84 passengers, 4 crew
Why: THe Jet Blue plane made an emergency landing at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport after getting a mechanical alert.There was an odor in the cockpit.
Emergency vehicles were standing by.
Passengers were evacuated via emergency slide on to the tarmac. No injuries were reported.

Small Plane Lands in Emergency in West Boca Raton
A twin engine prop plane made an emergency landing near the 7900 block of Palmetto Park Road in West Boca Raton, Florida, on February 28.Authorities said the plane was headed to Pompano Beach when it experienced engine problems and had to land in emergency.
According to Albert Borroto, the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer, “The pilot did an excellent job landing on the canal bank, missing power lines and setting the aircraft down without hitting any surrounding populated areas and not injuring himself.”
Lufthansa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bulgaria
Lufthansa flight LH-689 made an emergency landing in Sofia, Bulgaria, on December 26th.The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Munich, Germany, was diverted after electrical smoke was noticed in aft galley.
The plane landed uneventfully. All eighty-one people aboard remained safe.
