    Beech Crashes in Karachi

    What: JS Air Beech 1900C en route from Karachi to Bhit Shah (Pakistan)
    Where: Gulistan-e-Jauhar Town, Karachi Pakistan

    Who: 19 passengers and 2 crew
    Why: THE JSAIR flight had been chartered by a US firm working on an oil field in Karachi. The destination was an oil field at Bhit Shah in the southern province of Sindh.

    Just after takeoff, the plane’s right engine failed. When the plane banked to head back to the airport, the other engine failed as well.The flight crashed less than 2 minutes after takeoff. Fifteen of the passengers were ENI (Italian oil and gas) employees:(Altaf Hussain Khalid, Hussain Sadaqat, Jamali Nisar Ahmed, Khan Noor, Moazzam Saeed, Nadeem Ahmed, Nizamani Muhammad Azam, Rafique Sajid, Rana Muhammad Alam, Raza Amir, Saleemuddin, Sasso Antonio (Italian), Shah Iqbal Hussain, Siddique Shahid, Syed Anwar Imran, Syed Irshad Ali and Tahir Muhammad.) Also killed in the crash were three crew members of JSAir, including Chief Pilot (and general manager operations) Captain Naeemul Haq (53-year-old chief pilot was a former squadron leader with the Pakistan Air Force), First Officer Captain Muhammad Nauman Shamsi, flight technician Tariq Mehmood, and inspector Zafar Iqbal.

    The black box has been recovered. An international team of investigators including reps for Beechcraft is expected.

    The plane operated 2 Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65B engines, and had accrued 18545 total airframe hours since its first flight in 1991.

    Pilot Killed After Small Plane Crashes in Colorado

    A small plane crashed near Parker, Colorado, on May 11th.

    Authorities said the plane went down shortly after departing from Centennial Airport.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The plane’s engine crashed into a nearby occupied home. Fortunately, no one was injured.

    Pilot Killed in Plane Crash in Brown County, NE

    A 10-seater plane crashed in Brown County, Nebraska, on September 23rd.

    Authorities said the plane had taken off from Ainsworth Regional Airport and was heading to North Dakota when it went down.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Yemeni Military Crash Kills 5

    What: Yemen Air Force Antonov
    Where: Al-Anad Air Base, Yemen
    When: October 25, 2011
    Who: 15 aboard, 5 fatalities
    Why: A plane carrying eight Syrian engineers and seven Yemenis crashed while landing at Al-Anad on October 25 in the southern province of Lahij.

    Three Syrian technicians and one Yemeni died at the scene. Four, then five deaths have been reported.

    The condition of the survivors has not been released.

    What: Air France Airbus A380 superjumbo passenger jet scheduled from New York to Paris
    Where: New York
    When: Monday
    Who: 511 passengers
    Why: Prior to take-off, half of the passengers were accommodated by a later A340 flight, and the rest were moved to other flights.

    The A340 was grounded in New York due to a problem with the fuel tanks (cited as a “technical” problem.)

    Another A380 was grounded due to an unspecified “minor computer problem.”

    Are we surprised to hear that fly-by-wire is imperfect?

    Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Dhaka

    Biman Bangladesh AirlinesBiman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 0085 had to make an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on March 28.

    The Airbus 310 was coming from Singapore when the pilot reported a fire warning from one of its engines and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely and none of the 210 passengers aboard was harmed.

    Authorities said it was a false alarm and no evidence of fire was found.
