    Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Bird Strike

    THY Turkish AirlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK-2408 had to return and make an emergency landing in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 28th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Antalya, Turkey, but had to turn back after the left engine ingested birds.

    The plane landed back safely. All 176 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    SAS Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Greenland

    SASSAS flight SK-945 made an emergency landing at Sondrestrom Air Base, Greenland, on October 12.

    The Airbus 330 plane, heading from Stockholm, Sweden to Chicago, USA, was diverted after the crew reported smoke in cabin. According to an airline spokesperson, “There was a smell of smoke in the cabin, which is believed to have been caused by a short-circuited coffee maker.”

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 146 passengers and 10 crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Air New Zealand Boeing 737-300 en route from Wellington to Auckland
    Where: Wellington Airport
    When: Aug 18 2010
    Who: 102 passengers
    Why: After takoff, the plane developed engine trouble and had to shut down an engine. They returned to the airport and made a safe landing.

    The engine trouble was due to ingesting a bird.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    Alaska Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at PDX Airport

    Alaska Airlines flight AS-959 made an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, on May 13th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Phoenix, Arizona, was on short final to PDX airport when the crew reported a possible fire on-board.

    The plane landed safely and was attended by emergency services.

    All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Colibri Crashes Stormy Mountainside in San Jose de Ocoa

    What: Dominican Consul Eurocopter EC120 Colibri en route from Santo Domingo to San Jose de Ocoa
    Where: San Jose de Ocoa, Dominican Republic
    When: 15-OCT-2009 at 14:55
    Who: 3 aboard, all fatalities
    Why: The Colibri light helicopter took off for Ocoa from the Hotel Santo Domingo‘s heliport at 2:35 p.m. but crashed into a mountain in the south of the country in heavy rain, killing all occupants (the pilot and two passengers: first lieutenant Wilker Diaz, Manuel Checo, Yendi Vásquez)

    The last communication with the pilot was at 2:55 p.m. when he told ATC he had Ocoa in sight.
    The Dominican consul in Haiti, Carlos Castillo—whose helicopter it is—was not aboard.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hartford

    American Airlines flight AA-2250 had to make an emergency landing in Hartford, Connecticut, on February 26th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Chicago, Illinois, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an unusual smell on board.

    The plane landed back uneventfully. All ninety-three passengers and six crew members remained unharmed.
