    Ryanair Flight Returns to Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland

    Ryanair flight FR-4060 had to return and make an emergency landing at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland, on February 7th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Malaga, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew suspected a tailstrike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Ash Cloud Buenos Aires

    The eruption of Mt Puyehue Cordon Caulle volcano in Chile spewing volcanic ash is continuing to disrupt flights across Australia, New Zealand and South America.

    The second week of eruptions of the Puyehue volcano in southern Chile’s Andes mountains is alarming authorities who anticipate the ash cloud will cause further flight delays as it lingers in the atmosphere. All flights from Buenos Aires are suspended. Flying through the ash cloud damages engines.

    The airspace over Perth and Tasmania are also being affected by the ash plume.

    Some flight services across the Tasman Sea also remain suspended.

    Flight delays are still being experienced across South America including Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

    Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Returns to Buenos Aires After Bird Strike

    Aerolineas Argentinas flight AR-1878 had to return and make an emergency landing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on August 14th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Ushuaia, Argentina, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Buenos Aires-Bound Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Encounters Turbulence

    Aerolineas Argentinas flight AR-1303 encountered severe turbulence on the way to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 18th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane was flying from Miami, Florida, when it hit turbulence that injured fifteen people.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Medical assistance was provided at the airport. Eight of the injured were taken to a hospital.

    Japan Airlines Landing in High Winds Suffers Tail Strike, Go-Around, No Injuries

    What: Japan Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Shanghai Hongqiao to Tokyo
    Where: Tokyo
    When: Mar 31st 2012 4:08 pm
    Who: 296 passengers, 12 crew
    Why: On approach to Tokyo, the plane was just above the runway when gusty wind made the pilots chose to go around. On the go-around, the tail scraped the runway. In spite of significant damage to the plane, the second approach resulted in a safe landing about thirty minutes later.

    The Japan Safety board sent three inspectors on Sunday.

    The rear section of the plane’s body sustained scratches, and the pressure bulkhead between the cabin and tail was “slightly misshapen.” No injuries were reported.

    Andes Lineas Aereas Lands Safely with Load of Brazilian Tourists

    What: Chartered Andes Lineas Aereas McDonnel Douglas MD-82 (also reported as -83) en route from Bariloche Argentina to Buenos Aires
    Where: Neuquen Argentina
    When: August 17 2010
    Who: 152 Brazilian tourists
    Why: While the chartered jet was transporting Brazilian tourists home from a skiing trip, the plane suffered sudden depressurization. Oxygen masks were deployed, and the plane made an emergency landing in Neuquen.

    The pilot made a safe landing in Neuquen. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff. Passengers were provided two replacement planes by the carrier.
