    Why: Over the Tasman sea, the flight developed a hydraulics problem and entered a holding pattern. The plane landed safely back at Sydney, and was towed off the runway.

    Delta: Cautionary Landing

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Atlanta to Las Vegas
    Where: Will Rogers Airport
    When: Apr 7 2010 5 pm
    Who: 182 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: While en route (near Oklahoma City), the plane developed unspecified mechanical problems in an engine. The crew decided to divert to the nearest airport. The flight landed safely. Passengers were provided refreshments, and given the option to either continue that day on an alternative flight or fly the next day.

    There were no injuries

    Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Chennai

    Air India flight AI-440 had to return and make an emergency landing in Chennai, India, on June 20th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Delhi, India, but had to turn back due to a suspected bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and thirty people aboard remained safe.

    What: Delta Airlines/Pinnacle Airlines Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Wilkes-Barre,PA to Detroit,MI
    Where: Elmira
    When: Jan 19th 2012
    Who: 41 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: After takeoff, the flight developed hydraulic issues.

    Pilots diverted to Elmira. However, the hydraulic problem was exacerbated by a flaps problem, leading to an aborted landing and a fly by.

    Pilots made a fast but safe landing.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    unitedUnited Airlines flight UA-30 made an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on December 9th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane was flying from Newark, New Jersey, when the crew declared an emergency due to a flaps issue.

    The plane landed at higher than normal speed. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Aussie Emergency Landing

    What: nine-seater plane, a charter of Shine Aviation Service
    Where: Geraldton Airport
    When: Jan 7 8:30 am
    Who: 9 passengers aboard.
    Why: Flight reported that a warning light predicted the landing gear might fail on landing. The emergency landing occurred when landing gear became stuck and its wheels failed to come down. The pilot used up excess fuel before landing without incident.
