    What: Lion Air flight McDonnell-Douglas en route from Solo City Java Indonesia
    Where: Adi Sumaro Airport
    When: November 30, 2004
    Who: The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers had minor or no injury
    Why: On November 30, 2004, at 1814 Jakarta time, a McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 Lion Air flight 538, was substantially damaged when it overran runway 26 at Adi Sumaro Airport(SOC), Solo City, Central Java, Indonesia. The captain, 1 flight attendant, and 23 passengers were fatally injured; the first officer, 2 flight attendants and 56 passengers were seriously injured; and 84 passengers received either minor injuries or were not injured. Night visual meteorological conditions prevailed; however, rain showers were in the area, and the runway was wet. The flight originated at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. After landing, it continued off the departure end of the runway and impacted the concrete base of a localizer array.

    Russian Cargo Crash


    Six crew and three passengers died in the crash of a fifty year old An-12 on the outskirts of Irkutsk Russia at the Irkutsk plant airfield. All nine aboard died on impact. A fuel fire ensued but was under control by emergency responders.

    So far six remains have been recovered but not the black boxes. The military crew was flying plane parts from Novosibirsk (Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association (NAPO)) to Irkutsk-2 airport, when it hit a warehouse. There were no injuries reported in the warehouse.

    Officials said:

    “The An-12 came in for landing at low altitude and grazed military depot buildings 10 kilometers away from the landing strip, after which it crashed.”

    Australia Ground Collision

    On landing on Oct 24, 2013 at Hamilton Airport, a training flight in a Waikato Aero Club Tecnam P2008 struck a parked Cessna 172. The twenty-five year old student pilot, parked vehicle and training vehicle all suffered injury. The parked Cessna sustained the most damage.

    Witnesses say that the pilot managed to get the plane under control as he was landing, reducing the severity of the incident. Impact occurred at low speed.

    The plane came down hard, damaging the Tecnam’s undercarriage, and the pilot’s nose and back. The pilot is suffering from shock.

    This is the first incident in the year old plane the student was flying. He was hospitalized at Waikato Hospital.

    United Airlines Plane Returns to Tampa after Bird Strike

    United Airlines flight UA-164 had to return for an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida, on March 8th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane took off for Houston, Texas, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. There were 133 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Crashed in Marion County; Pilot Killed

    A single engine plane crashed in the middle of a corn field on Bluff Road in Marion County, South Carolina just after 1:30 p.m. on June 13.

    One person, identified as John Milton Sherbert, 55, of Florence was killed at the scene. His body has been sent to Charleston for an autopsy.

    The Manager of Marion County Airport said that the plane remained in the air for about 15 minutes before it crashed at a distance of about 1 mile from the airport.

    The authorities also said that the victim’s wife was one of the three witnesses of the deadly crash; she was waiting for her husband at the airport.

    The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.

    Allegiant Air Flight Makes Emergency landing at McCarran International Airport

    AllegiantAllegiant Air Flight 500 had to make an emergency landing at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 22nd.

    The plane took off for Indianapolis, Indiana, however, one of its tires deflated during takeoff, prompting the crew to turn back.

    The plane landed safely. All 202 passengers and 7 crew members remained unhurt.
