    Fedex Federal Express Plane Returns to Tennessee after Bird Strike

    FedExFedex Federal Express flight FX-541 had to return and make an emergency landing at Memphis International Airport, Memphis, Tennessee, on January 9.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-10, en-route to Las Vegas, Nevada, had to return due to bird strike during the take off. The plane was getting a lot of vibrations during the flight.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    No one was injured.

    Light Plane Crash in Russia Claims Two Lives

    A light engine plane crashed in the Russian Urals, killing both on board.

    According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the two-seater RokoAero NG4 crashed at Pirogovo settlement, at about 1pm Moscow time on March 30.

    The plane was owned by Izhevsk Flying Club. The company’s website reports that the pilot requested permission for landing. However, as he took a 180 degree turn, the plane crashed.

    The victims have been identified as 35 year old instructor, Alex Surnin and a 39 year old student.

    Emergency specialists are investigating the cause of accident.

    Spirit Airlines Jet Returns to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

    spiritSpirit Airlines Flight 596 had to return and make an emergency landing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 19.

    According to the airline, “the flight crew decided to return to the gate because of a security issue on board.” It is believed that two passengers were overheard mentioning ‘bomb’ about 20 minutes after the plane took off for Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The passengers who were heard talking about bomb were removed while the Bomb-sniffing dogs searched the aircraft.

    Authorities confirmed that no explosive were found.

    Colombia Glider Crash


    A Urdinarrain Air Club Lehtovaara PIK-16C Vasama (this is a glider; I had to look it up. The crash is bad enough you can’t really tell.)

    The glider was climbing while being towed at Urdinarrain Airfield, Prov. de Entre Ríos.

    The glider crashed, killing the pilot.

    Ricardo Alfredo Cabrera was aboard the training glider. Apparently he was being towed, made a turn and came off without achieving adequate height.

    The crash occurred in the field of Onelio Charadia where the pilot died on the scene.

    Mexico: Aero JL Cessna Crash

    What: Aero JL Cessna 182 registration XB-AIL en route to Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico
    Where: Xalatlaco, Estado de México, Estado de Mexico
    When: April 3, 2008
    Who: 1 dead, 3 injured
    Why: After losing altitude, the Cessna crashed in the Toluca Valley.

    45 year old Ricardo Medina died in the crash; Jose Adrián Hernandez, the pilot survived with injuries. The injured were airlifted to ABC Hospital in Mexico City.

    Federal Officials Investigating Louisiana Crash


    What: Sikorsky S-76C helicopter, operated by PHI Inc
    Where: Louisiana marshland – Bayou Penchant area about 100 miles from New Orleans in southwestern Terrebonne Parish
    When: Sunday Jan. 4, 2009
    Who: eight fatalities, one survivor. The helicoptor was carrying two pilots and seven passengers The dead were identified as Allen Boudreaux, of Ama, La.; Andrew Moricio and Ezequiel Cantu of Morgan City, La.; Randy Tarpley of Jonesville, La.; Jorey A. Rivero, of Bridge City, La.; Charles W. Nelson of Pensacola, Fla.; Thomas E. Ballenger of Eufaula, Ala. and Vyarl W. Martin of Hurst, Texas. The injured survivor is Steven Yeltin was medevacted; he is listed as being in critical condition and is awaiting to be transferred to Oschner Medical Center from the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma. Mike Moreno, CEO of the Moreno Group along with Dynamic Industries, employed five of the victims.
    Why: The helicopter is believed to have crashed about seven minutes after it took off at 3 p.m, A distress signal was received just after 3. The NTSB investigation is well underway and the black box has already been recovered.
