
WASHINGTON–The Federal Aviation Administration and Santa Monica, California agreed on the future of Santa Monica Airport.The city agrees to maintain continuous and stable operation of the airport until December 31, 2028. After that date, Santa Monica has the right to close the airport.Santa Monica can shorten the airport’s single runway from 4,973 to 3,500 feet and is obligated to enter into leases with private aeronautical service providers to ensure continuity of service, until it decides to provide services on its own.

4 Lost in Crash at St George Airport

What: Cessna 172
Where: St. George Municipal Airport, St George, Utah
When: May 26, 2012
Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
Why: The plane carrying four men crashed early in the morning around 1:30 a.m. The wreckage wasn’t discovered until 6 a.m. when security discovered it 300 feet south of the runway. There were no severe weather conditions reported at the airport during the early morning hours.The four victims were locals whose names have not been released.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

Newlyweds Killed in Helicopter Crash While Leaving Their Wedding
A helicopter crashed near Uvalde, Texas, on November 3rd.
The incident happened when the aircraft was carrying a newlywed couple away from their wedding.
Three people were killed in the crash, including the young couple and the pilot. They were identified as pilot Gerald Green Lawrence, and the passengers Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler.
Cargo Plane Made Emergency Landing at Spokane Airport
A UPS Airlines Airbus 300, heading from Portland to Spokane, made an emergency landing at the Spokane Airport in Washington on the morning of July 30.According to Todd Woodard with Spokane International, the pilots thought some tires of the plane had blown during takeoff. They declared an in-flight emergency as a precautionary step.
The plane landed safely and it was discovered that no tires were actually blown.
