    Kananaskis Pilot Dies Waiting for Air Ambulance


    What: Kananaskis Heli Tours Bell 206B JetRanger II sightseeing tour from Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino to Bow Valley
    Where: Canmore, Alberta
    When: March 30, 2012 10:30 a.m.
    Who: 1 fatality, 4 survivors
    Why: A sightseeing helicopter crashed near Grotto Mountain near Banff National Park, Canmore, killing pilot Matthew Goodine of Prince George, British Columbia. The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. Canadian Forces Base Trenton heard the emergency beacon at 12:30 and notified the mounties. EMS did not arrive until 2:45 and the pilot died while waiting to be airlifted to a hospital in Calgary. Rescue efforts on the remote back country mountain slope were hampered by high winds and snow, along with the rugged terrain. Rescue personnel rappelled from the chopper, and the two couples from Britain were airlifted in slings to be flown to hospitals.

    It began to snow around 10:30 a.m., and that may have been a factor. Weather will delay the investigation as much as a week due to snowy forecasts. There is no black box.

    Mexican Helicopter Crash Kills 3

    What: Mexican Geological Services helicopter
    Where: northwestern state of Sinaloa 19 miles from the city of Los Mochis in the mountain town of Sinoloa de Leyva
    When: Wednesday
    Who: Three Mexican Geological Service employees: David Barbosa Luna, engineer managing SGM’s Western Region, Alberto Montañes Castro, project coordinator , and helicopter’s pilot Capt. Rodrigo Navarro Jimenez
    Why: 3 SGM workers managing field activities for the preparation of two geological mining charts were killed on the job. The flight was returning from the mountain and landed on or in the Sinoloa de Leyva Baseball stadium. They were en route to Sinoloa to refuel and check a faulty engine.

    Where: Buena Vista
    When: August 27 2010
    Who: 10 aboard
    Why: The helicopter was engaged in searching for a group of suspected drug traffickers in southwestern Apure state.

    Plane Crash Landed at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

    Fokker-belly landingA Fokker 50 turboprop plane, operated by Skyward International Aviation, crash landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, early morning on January 4.

    The authorities said the plane, en-route from Wajir to Nairobi, landed on its belly due to landing gear failure. None of the 6 people aboard was injured.

    The flight operations were temporarily halted at the airport and all incoming flights were diverted to Mombasa airport. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) later released a statement saying, “Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has concluded the inspection of the runway at JKIA. JKIA Runway 6 has been cleared by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and is now open. Arrival and Departure flight operations have resumed.”

    According to the local media reports, the aircraft was struck by birds upon take off, one of which got stuck in the landing gear mechanism.

    Helicopter Crashes in Salters SC


    What: Helicopter
    Where: a field near Haddock’s Flying Services, in Salters
    When: 2:45 p.m. Dec 25
    Who: Two men aboard. One was taken by ambulance to a local hospital; the other airlifted to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in serious condition.
    Why: The helicopter experienced mechanical problems
