SpiceJet flight SG-152 had to return and make an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, India, on March 19.
The aircraft, heading from Mumbai to Delhi, was mid-air when it started causing turbulence due to green system failure, prompting the crew to return.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All 141 passengers and 11 crew members aboard remained unhurt.
Delta Airlines flight DL-2668 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on November 10th.
The Boeing 717-200 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Boston, Massachusetts, was diverted after the crew reported an engine failure.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 97 people aboard remained safe.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.
Thai Lion Air flight SL-539 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Chiang Mai International Airport, Chiang Mai, Thailand, on April 10th.
The Boeing 737-900, flying from Chiang Rai to Bangkok, Thailand, was mid-air when the crew reported loss of cabin pressure, prompting the plane to divert.
The plane landed uneventfully.
Two passengers onboard experienced dizziness, whereas the rest remained unharmed.
On August 12, an easyJet Airbus A320-214 en route from Milan-Malpensa Airport to Lisbon took off okay, but pieces of the plane were falling.
The control tower spotted the debris on the runway.
After losing parts of the engine cowling, pilots made a safe, if dramatic landing back at the Milan-Malpensa. None of the 174 passengers and crew sustained injury, though most of them went through an emotional roller coaster, especially when a passenger screamed out that “A piece of the wing has gone flying.”
Pilots circled for twenty minutes before landing; then after landing safely, when pilots put engines into reverse, more stuff fell off the engine. Although fire engines were on standby, standby is all they had to do. Passengers and crew exited via the staircase.
In a genius of understatement, Easyjet confirmed “flight EZY2715 from Milan Malpensa Airport to Lisbon on 12 August returned from airborne shortly after take off due to a technical issue with one of the engines.”
Passengers were provided an alternative flight.
I don’t make a lot of comments, due to my copious free time, but I can’t resist. In the meantime while waiting for the updates, we are considering shipping easyJet some Superglue, or maybe a certified mechanic or two. In the words of mechanics everywhere, lefty loosie, righty tighty. I am no mechanic, but this smells to me like…dare I say it…

Not to make light of the situation though–airline safety is no joke. We expect there will be public updates about the investigation into this incident.
British Airways Flight BA-48 had to make an unscheduled landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, at around 10:24 a.m. on November 23.
The pilot sought permission for diverting to Shannon Airport after one of the engines of Boeing 777 aircraft had to be shut down due to some fault. The flight was en-route from Seattle, Washington to London Heathrow at the time.
The plane landed uneventfully and all 220 passengers and crew members remained unharmed. The aircraft was taken for examination.
An airline spokesperson said, “Our flight diverted to Shannon due to a minor technical issue and our cabin crew looked after the customers on board. Safety is always our first priority, and the aircraft diverted purely as a precaution.”
A replacement plane was arranged for the passengers which took off 6 hours later.
Earlier on November 21, the same aircraft, performing flight BAW-215 from London Heathrow to Boston, made an unscheduled landing at Shannon Airport due to a problem with generators.
A Lufthansa plane burst four tires upon landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India, on May 13th.
The Airbus A330-300 was performing flight LH-764 from Munich, Germany, when four of the ten tires burst.
There were 163 passengers aboard at the time; none of them were injured.
Japan Airlines flight JL-724 had to return for an emergency landing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 26th.
The Boeing 787-900 plane took off for Narita International Airport, Japan, but had to turn back due to a technical issue.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
