On January 12, a Hawaiian Airlines crew had to put on their oxygen masks after Flight 226 developed smoke in the cockpit. Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717 was en route from Honolulu to Kahului when a fire developed in a cargo bay. Pilots managed a safe landing. Evidence of a fire was found in one of the cargo holds. The source of the fire/smoke was an e-cigarette with lithium batteries packed in a passenger’s luggage. The TSB bans E-cigarettes and battery chargers in checked luggage but no criminal charges have been filed. The cargo area sustained enough damage that the return flight was cancelled.

Who: 261 passengers and 16 crewmembers. Passsengers had no injuries, but 2 crew members suffered hip and thoracic fractures.

Southwest Airlines Flight Returns to Chicago after Bird Strike
Southwest Airlines flight WN-105 had to return for an emergency landing in Chicago, Illinois, on December 15th.The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Las Vegas, Nevada, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported a bird strike.
The plane landed safely. There were 164 passengers and 6 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

Small Plane Crash-Lands in North Carolina after Losing Fuel Pressure
A small plane crash-landed in a field near Williford Road in Sharpsburg, Wilson County, North Carolina, on the afternoon of March 10th.The plane was flying from Fayetteville to Washington, at the time.
The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was trying to make an emergency landing after losing fuel pressure.
The plane sustained significant damage.
The pilot remained safe.

Why: Less than an hour after takeoff, smoke was detected in the airbus lavoratory. The flight returned to Buffalo and made a safe landing.
