    5 Injured as Light Planes Collide at Melbourne’s Moorabbin Airport

    Two light aircrafts collided on the runway of Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne, Australia, on April 11.

    It is believed that the accident happened after one of the aircrafts made an emergency landing due to engine issues while the other one was taxiing.

    Five people were injured in the collision. Three of them were shifted to hospital with minor injuries while the other two were treated at the spot.

    Both aircrafts sustained severe damage.

    The Australia Transport Safety Bureau is investigating.

    What: Birgenair Boeing 757-200 en route from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to Frankfurt Germany
    Where: Puerto Plata
    When: February 6th 1996
    Who: 176 passengers 13 crew
    Why: The plane had been parked for a month in Puerto Plata. After takeoff, disagreeing airspeeds resulted in simultaneous stall and overspeed warnings that precipitated a crash that killed 176 passengers and 13 crew fifteen minutes after takeoff.

    A black and yellow mud dauber wasp was found lodged in the tube.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    American Airlines flight AA-740 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 15th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane took off for Madrid, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported that a panel door was open.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Crashes at Millard Airport in Omaha; 1 Killed, 1 Injured

    A small plane crashed at Millard Airport in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 27th.

    The plane was carrying a man and a woman when it went down at the end of the runway.

    The male occupant of the plane was killed in the crash. The woman was injured and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in critical condition.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Bangalore Helicopter Dodges Wires and Crowded City to Land on Rooftop


    What: HAL Rotary Wing Academy Schweizer 269C (300C)
    Where: Byapanahalli area, northeast Bangalore, India
    When: April 12, 2012, 4:30 pm
    Who: 2 aboard, 0 fatalities
    Why: After a two hour ten minute flight, the helicopter on a training flight developed engine failure, dodged high-tension wires and other buildings to land on a Bangalore roof.

    The Schweizer 269C is a light four year old plane used for civilian training.

    The helicopter was damaged during the emergency landing, rolling over on its side on the rooftop of Maitri Apartments in the Byapanahalli area in North East Bangalore and leaking some of the 20 litres of fuel it carried. The rotors were blown off on impact with the parapet. Retired Air Commodore Roj Assey and trainee Digvijay Singh survived the emergency landing uninjured.

    The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is investigating.

    American Airlines Flight Returned to LAX with Cracked Windshield

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight 2448, heading towards Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, returned to the Los Angeles International Airport for emergency landing shortly after it took off on September 1.

    The plane was diverted after the captain reported cracked windshield just moments after taking off.

    The aircraft landed uneventfully sometime after 4 p.m. and everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Five crew members and 180 passengers were switched to another aircraft within an hour.
