    Kananaskis Pilot Dies Waiting for Air Ambulance


    What: Kananaskis Heli Tours Bell 206B JetRanger II sightseeing tour from Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino to Bow Valley
    Where: Canmore, Alberta
    When: March 30, 2012 10:30 a.m.
    Who: 1 fatality, 4 survivors
    Why: A sightseeing helicopter crashed near Grotto Mountain near Banff National Park, Canmore, killing pilot Matthew Goodine of Prince George, British Columbia. The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. Canadian Forces Base Trenton heard the emergency beacon at 12:30 and notified the mounties. EMS did not arrive until 2:45 and the pilot died while waiting to be airlifted to a hospital in Calgary. Rescue efforts on the remote back country mountain slope were hampered by high winds and snow, along with the rugged terrain. Rescue personnel rappelled from the chopper, and the two couples from Britain were airlifted in slings to be flown to hospitals.

    It began to snow around 10:30 a.m., and that may have been a factor. Weather will delay the investigation as much as a week due to snowy forecasts. There is no black box.

    AirAsia X Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Issue

    AirAsia X flight D7-523 made an emergency landing at Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan, on February 26th.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane heading from Tokyo, Japan, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All three hundred and sixty-nine passengers and ten crew members remained unharmed

    Spirit Airlines Flight Diverts to Denver due to Fumes On-Board

    Spirit Airlines flight NK-395 made an emergency landing in Denver, Colorado, on December 16th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Las Vegas, Nevada, was diverted due to fumes on board.

    The plane landed safely. Three passengers and two crew members were treated by medical teams at the airport.

    Air Canada Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ottawa

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC8953 operated by Jazz Aviation made an emergency landing at Macdonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa, Canada, at around 6:30 a.m. ET on August 13.

    Pilots made an emergency landing after smoke was discovered in the cabin of the plane which was heading from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Toronto.

    The flight with 69 passengers and 4 crew members on board landed safely according to Ottawa Airport Authority.

    Air Canada spokesperson Debra Williams said, “Passengers were moved by ground transportation into the terminal and were booked on alternate flights to their destination. We apologize to our passengers for this incident and inconvenience.”

    Air Canada engineers will inspect the plane to determine the cause of the smoke.

    JetBlue Flight Returns to Buffalo After Bird Strike

    JetBlue flight B6-2216 made an emergency landing in Buffalo, New York, on May 24th.

    The plane took off for Boston, Massachusetts, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All sixty people aboard remained safe.

    Thomas CookThomas Cook flight MT-1033 made an emergency landing in Banjul, Gambia, on November 8th.

    The plane had just departed for Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom, when it encountered a flock of ducks. The birds impacted both engines and the landing gear, forcing the crew to return for an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
