    LATAM Brasil Flight Returns to Sao Paulo due to Engine Issue

    LATAM Brasil flight LA-3466 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sao Paulo International Airport, Brazil, on February 17th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Porto Alegre, Brazil, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air New Zealand Plane Returns to New Zealand due to Pilot Feeling Unwell

    Air New Zealand (ANZ) flight NZ-87 had to return and make an emergency landing at Auckland Airport, New Zealand, on July 5th.

    The Boeing 777-200 flying to Hong Kong, China, was over the Tasman Sea when the pilot started feeling unwell.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Hendrick Doubletake: Motorsports Crash Landing

    What: Hendrick Gulfstream G150 en route to Key West
    Where: Key West
    When: Nov 1, 2011 7:58
    Who: Rick and Laura Hendric, pilot and copilot
    Why: On landing in Key West, the plane had no brakes and skidded off the safety area. Those on board had minor injuries and were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. Rick Hendrick suffered a broken rib and shoulder.

    The NTSB is investigating.

    We doublechecked this news item, to make certain it was not a reposting of the 2004 crash that tragically took the lives of ten of the Hendrick team and family.

    Southwest Airlines Safe Landing after Indicator Alert Error

    Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 Flight 481 from Las Vegas to Tulsa made an emergency landing at McCarran International Airport.

    The flight diverted back after a cargo hold fire-alert alerted the crew. The flight had left at 1:20, and returned at 2:45. Passengers indicated turbulence as they were returning to Las Vegas. The crew did not explain the situation to the passengers until after landing.

    136 passengers and four crew were aboard. No one was injured. THe problem was an indication alert error. Passengers were rebooked on alternative flights.

    Alaska Airlines Emergency Landing

    On Feb 10 2013, Alaska Airlines flight 837 en route from Norman Y Mineta San Jose Int’l Airport to Honolulu departed and returned to Mineta San Jose after a power problem in a navigation system an hour into the flight. 132 passengers and six crew were aboard.

    When the captain decided to return to Mineta San Jose, the San Jose Fire Department was on standby.

    The Boeing 737-800 (738) made a safe landing at 9:40 a.m after two hours in the air, and did not need towing.

    The replacement flight was scheduled to leave at 10:45.

    Virgin Atlantic Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Shannon Airport

    Virgin Atlantic flight VS-50A made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on August 10th.

    The plane heading from Orlando, Florida, to Gatwick Airport, England, was diverted due to smoke on board.

    The plane landed safely.

    There were one hundred and ninety-four passengers and thirteen crew members aboard at the time. Twelve passengers were examined by the medical teams at the airport.
