    Maswings Crash


    On October 10, a MASWings de Havilland Dash 6-300 Twin Otter en route from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat made a landing in high wind, and short of the runway impacted a house in Kampung Sin-San.

    A woman and her son were in the living room while the plane struck the bedroom, dining room and porch. The plane had two crew, fourteen adult passengers and two children, of whom six sustained injuries and one died. The injured were first treated at Kudat Hospital. More severely injured will be flown out to Kota Kinabalu; and ten others received outpatient care.

    The two fatalities were the first officer and a passenger, Tan Ah Chai, 96. The pilot was Captain Wan Mohd Abd Amir Wan Yahya. First Officer Marc Joel Bansh, 23, died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

    Ten firefighters responded to the scene.

    AIRLINES CEO STATEMENT MH3002 INCIDENT AT KUDAT, SABAH
    We deeply regret the incident in Kudat of flight MH 3002 on Thursday, October 10, 2013. The aircraft, with Registration Number DHC6 9M-MDM, departed from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat with 14 passengers and two technical crew onboard landed in the vicinity of Kudat Airport at 2.50pm. Out of the 16 onboard, 15 were Malaysians and one Filipino national.Regrettably there have been two fatalities (of which one is MASwings Co-Pilot) and two injuries. The Captain piloting the flight was Captain Wan Mohd Abd Amir Wan Yahya, 56. He has over 4700 total flying hours. Captain Wan Mohd joined MASwings on August 2011We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased and those involved in the accident, and we are doing everything we can to assist them in this extremely difficult time. We are assisting the passengers and families the best way we can.

    A 24-hour Call Centre service has been activated. Families of passengers who were on-board may call 603-7884 1234 for further enquiries. We have also set up our Go Team in Kudat to look after their needs and keep them as quickly informed as possible. The investigation will be carried out by the authorities.

    Malaysia Airlines together with MASwings are fully co-operating and assisting the investigation in every possible way. As per aircraft maintenance record, the Twin-Otter was fit to fly and was in good condition before the accident.Malaysia Airlines and MASwings will continue to monitor the situation at the crash site and update on the situation and will provide information relating to the flight itself and updates on steps being taken.Once again, we at Malaysia Airlines and MASwings express our deepest regret and extend our condolences to all affected parties. I would like to reiterate once again that our utmost priority is to ensure complete well being of our passengers, crew and other affected parties.

    Military Plane Crashed in Egypt; 6 Killed, 1 injured

    An armed forces reconnaissance aircraft crashed near an airport in Fayoum, Egypt, on September 21.

    The authorities said that the accident happened due to technical malfunction.

    According to Army Spokesman Mohamed Samir, 6 people were killed in the crash while one was seriously injured.

    Minister of Defence, Sedki Sobhi, ordered the formation of an investigation committee to determine the cause of the crash.

    Disruptive Jet Blue Passenger Facing Federal Indictment

    What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 en route from New York to Los Angeles
    Where: Denver
    When: Aug 19 2012
    Who: one disorderly
    Why: On August 22, Marcus Covington was charged with abusive sexual contact and interference with flight crew members and attendants.

    The August 19 flight where the infraction occurred was en route from NY to LA. The Captain diverted to Denver after Covington groped a pregnant woman, argued with flight attendants, and was taken into custody by a special agent who was aboard the flight. Covington, who had been seen taking eight pills of some kind, accosted the pregnant woman near the restroom.

    The complaint says “He then ran his hands up the front of her body going from her crotch up to her breasts. He started with the back of his hands, but turned his hands with his palms facing her as he ran his hands over her breasts. She pushed him away and she got behind the flight attendant that had come up behind her. She then went into the lavatory where she remained crying for approximately five minutes.”

    Covington left the plane in handcuffs.

    American Airlines Landing Gear Forces Diversion

    What: American Airlines Dallas to St. Louis
    Where: Dallas
    When: Oct 2, 2012, 8:40 a.m
    Why: On takeoff, the American Airlines landing gear jammed.

    Pilots returned to Dallas and made a safe landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Passengers were provided an alternative plane to St. Louis.

    This is just one of numerous maintenance issues plaguing American Airlines.

    8,000 pilots have been casting votes for a month on authorization for their union to call a strike, escalating a long-running labor dispute with the airlines.

    The voting deadline passes at noon central time on Wednesday (1 p.m. EDT)

    Helicopter Crash in Australia Leaves One Injured

    A helicopter crashed in a secluded area near Blackall, western Queensland, Australia, on July 27th.

    According to sources, the man flying the helicopter was seriously injured in the crash. He was taken to hospital.

    The crash remains under investigation.

    Piper Crashes in Rhode Island


    What: Piper PA-32 registered to Robert A. Zoglio Jr. en route from T.F. Green Airport in Warwick to the smaller facility in Smithfield.
    Where: a half-mile southeast of the runway at North Central State Airport in Smithfield.
    When: The crash was reported after 5 p.m.
    Who: Two occupants of the plane were killed. Both were pilots.
    Why: Under investigation. The intent had been to do a practice approach, but the plane lost power.
