    Ranier Washington: Four Chopper Fatalities

    Where: SW training area of Joint Base Lewis-McChord

    Who: 2 occupants, 2 fatalities
    Why: Two two-seat reconnaissance “Scout”choppers crashed during routine exercises at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, a few miles from Ranier Washington. Four individuals died in the event. Two were injured. It has not been released if the two injured were aboard, or if the choppers collided.

    The remains were taken to Madigan Army Medical Center.

    The debris field covered 300 meters. Military vehicles were securing the scene.

    The Fort Rucker, Alabama Combat Readiness Center is coordinating the investigation, beginning with a six member team.

    Bolivia Bell 212 Heli Crashes During Rescue

    What: Armada Nacional Bolivariana Bell 212
    Where: Playa Valdez port off Margarita Island Venezuela
    When: Sept 14 2010
    Who: 7 aboard, 2 fatalities, 5 injuries
    Why: The Venezuelan military helicopter was engaged in rescuing 21 people aboard 2(?) small boats found adrift at sea. The helicopter had ferried doctors to a frigate, and after taking off from the frigate, collided with a navy research vessel,Armada Oceanógrafo BO-11, and fell into the ocean.

    The co-pilot co-pilot, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Alfredo Marquez and a crew member were killed. The pilot, Lieutenant Erick Martínez Sandoval, Lieutenant Edil Martinez and 3 other crew members were injured. The crash is under investigation.

    KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles

    KLM flight KL-602 had to return and make an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on November 18th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane took off for Amsterdam, Netherlands, but had to turn back due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Polar Air Cargo Plane Diverts to Washington due to Medical Emergency

    Polar AirPolar Air Cargo flight PO-214 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Seattle – Tacoma International Airport, Seattle, Washington, on April 22nd.

    The Boeing 747-800 was flying from Nagoya, Japan, to Cincinnati, Kentucky, when it declared medical emergency mid-air, as the captain was incapacitated, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The captain was taken to hospital.

    Horizon Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Yakima, WA

    Horizon Air flight QX-2399 had to divert for an emergency landing in Yakima, Washington, on May 29th.

    The plane heading from Boise, Idaho, to Seattle, Washington, was diverted after the crew noticed an electrical burning odor on-board.

    The plane landed safely. All 82 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Overloaded (?) Cessna Crashes in Colombia

    What: Condor Cessna TU206G Turbo Stationair
    Where: El Astillero, Cerro San Antonio de Prado, Colombia
    When: October 20, 2010, 9:40 am
    Who: 4 aboard, 4 fatalities
    Why: The plane carrying provisions to Urabá and 3 passengers flew into San Antonio Mountain, killing all aboard. A would-be passenger’s life was saved because he could not board the flight—because it was full.

    The pilot did not report an emergency to the tower.

    The pilot was Juan Guillermo Mondragon. Passengers included John Amado Pérez, Osías Sierra and Xenobia Palacios.
