    Aerolineas Argentinas Flight Rejects Take-Off From JFK Airport

    Aerolineas Argentinas Airlines flight AR-1301 had to reject take off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on February 9th.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane was accelerating to take off for Buenos Aires, Argentina, when the crew rejected take-off due to an engine stall.

    The plane safely returned to the apron. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    What: Continental Airlines Boeing 777-200 en route from Newark,NJ to Tel Aviv
    Where: Rome
    When: Dec 24/5 2009
    Who: 300 aboard
    Why: While en route, the crew received an indication of a problem (not released.) The flight diverted to Rome where the problem was handled, and then the flight continued to its destination.

    Kolavia Flight 348 Burns on the Runway, 34 Injured, fatalities increasing

    What: Kolavia (Kogalymavia) Tupolev TU-154B2 from Surgut to Moscow Domodedovo (Russia)
    Where: Surgut
    When: Jan 1st 2011
    Who: 116 passengers and 8 crew
    Why: While preparing for takeoff, an engine caught fire; it started burning while taxiing on the runway, and the fire spread to the fuselage.

    Passengers were evacuated in a cloud of thick black smoke, while panic ensued.

    The plane completely burned on the runway. After the evacuation, there was an explosion. Emergency services could not put out the fire. One burned passenger’s body was found.

    Initially reports were that one passenger was killed, two were burned, 32 were injured. 34 were hospitalized, 4 of whom in critical condition. On the latest update, the number of fatalities was increased to 3.

    27 were hospitalized with problems due to poisoning due to combustion products. Two men had moderate leg injuries, and a child with carbon monoxide poisoning is in intensive care. The Russian pop group Na-Na was aboard and lost their possessions in the fire.

    A criminal probe had been opened into a possible violation of air transport security rules.

    Aer Lingus Plane Returns to JFK due to Hydraulic Failure

    Aer LingusAer Lingus flight 110 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on September 28.

    The Boeing 757 that took off for Shannon airport, Ireland, was diverted after the pilot reported landing gear door problems, hydraulic failure, and no flaps.

    Fire was sparked in the left rear brakes as the plane touched the runway. Emergency responders immediately extinguished the fire and all 104 passengers were transported back to the terminal safely.

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Orlando to Salt Lake City
    Where: Orlando
    When: Oct 27 2010
    Who: 1 injury
    Why: Before takeoff, the plane made a sharp stop while taxiing, injuring one.

    The injury did not prevent takeoff, although there was a short delay while the injured party received treatment.

    Tunisair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Saudi Arabia

    tunisairTunisair flight TU-914 made an emergency landing at Prince Mohammed bin Abdul-Aziz International Airport in Medina, Saudi Arabia, on February 27th.

    The pilots declared emergency after a fire broke out in Airbus A330-200 plane’s left engine. The flight was heading from Medina, Saudi Arabia, to Tunis, Tunisia, at the time.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.
